Disney Speedstorm was treated to a new trailer, which doesn't reveal any new gameplay but instead depicts an action-packed CGI race underlining a few characters from the upcoming Mario Kart competitor's star-studded cast. The footage comes mere days after Gameloft delayed Disney Speedstorm to 2023.

Disney Speedstorm was announced in early 2022 as a free-to-play kart racer for the Xbox One and PS4, as well as PC. Its development is being handled by Vivendi-owned Gameloft, a company with a long and successful track record of working with Disney properties, as exemplified by projects such as Disney Magic Kingdoms, Disney Getaway Blast, and Disney Princess Majestic Quest. Racing games are another one of Gameloft's areas of expertise, with the company averaging more than one such title per year since the turn of the century, largely fueled by its globally successful Asphalt series of arcade racers which boasts 15 installments as of today.

The latest CGI trailer for Gameloft's newest racer highlights the fact that Disney Speedstorm features nearly a century's worth characters from both Disney and its award-winning animation studio Pixar. More specifically, the short promo shows Mickey Mouse, Jack Sparrow, Fa Mulan, and James P. Sullivan from Monsters Inc. racing against one another on a futuristic, neon-lit track. The course featured in the CGI trailer looks slightly reminiscent of Neo Bowser City—also known as Koopa City in PAL regions—from the last two Mario Kart games, though it is most likely meant to be based on The Factory from Monsters Inc., which was already confirmed as part of the Disney Speedstorm track list.

Gameloft has so far confirmed over 15 heroes that will be making their way to Disney Speedstorm at launch. Some of the most recognizable names from that list not shown in this latest trailer include Donald Duck, Goofy, Mowgli, Hercules, and Beast from Beauty and the Beast. Furthermore, Jack Sparrow won't be the only character from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies to be featured in the game, with the developers previously confirming that Elizabeth Swann will also be playable.

Besides Disney Speedstorm, Gameloft is currently also working on Disney Dreamlight Valley, a free-to-play life sim featuring a comparably impressive cast of popular characters which debuted on Game Pass as an early access title back in September. The game is scheduled to be fully released at some point in 2023 after Gameloft wraps up work on new Disney Dreamlight Valley content.

Disney Speedstorm is coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in 2023.
