During this year's first Nintendo Direct presentation, Disney and Pixar announced a new title, Disney Speedstorm, a racing game that incorporates characters from both companies' backgrounds. They also revealed a new trailer for the game showcasing the go-carts in action.

This new arcade racing game could rival Mario Kart as a free-to-play combat racer. The game will feature a traditional split-screen view, an online multiplayer mode, and also will support cross-play. Disney Speedstorm is predicted to launch sometime this summer.

The character lineup for this title includes several familiar faces from both Disney and Pixar Studios. Among the revealed racers in the trailer are Mickey Mouse, Captain Jack Sparrow, Mulan, Sully from Monsters Inc., Goofy, Donald Duck, and more are said to hit the track in the future. It was also shown that each character is upgradeable, allowing them to have their own unique skills to master and perform on the racetrack to secure a win. Each go-cart is customizable with numerous flashy colors, stylish wheels, wings, and more.

Like the incredible lineup, players can anticipate familiar locations as the racers take to the tracks. The trailer showcased Pirates of the Caribbean's Pirates Island map and The Jungle Book's Jungle Ruins map with specifics to match a racing perspective. And like most arcade titles, there are special abilities players can take advantage of, such as nitro boosts which allow them to drift with ease around corners and pass their opponents with mastery.

It will be interesting to see the characters fans have loved since childhood in a combat racing setting. With popular titles such as the Kingdom Hearts series, fans have already gotten a taste of what it's like to see Mickey Mouse with a weapon in hand (the kingdom keyblade), performing magic and saving the world from darkness along with the game's protagonist Sora. This go-cart battle will present a new take on action for Mickey and draw fans of the Mario Kart series and titles like Rocket League. Disney Speedstorm also promises endless new content or "fresh seasonal content" as the game will be updated constantly with new racers, new tracks, and collectibles will drop in regularly.

Disney Speedstorm gives family-friendly and game-night vibes for players who enjoy casual and competitive gaming on a free-to-play basis. Fans can look forward to Disney Speedstorm this summer.

Disney Speedstorm will be available on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
