Disney+ began its series of Star Wars TV shows successfully with The Mandalorian in the latter half of 2019. While its next Star Wars shows are releasing at unknown dates, it is now known that the Disney+ series based on Obi-Wan Kenobi has just brought a new writer on board for the show's development.

The show has added on writer Joby Harold for the script's development. According to sources for Variety, Harold will be writing the script in his first experience writing for a TV series. Previously, he acted as the executive producer for the third John Wick film and had also been chosen to help head the script on a new Transformers film.

It's a bit soon to tell if Harold's addition is a reason to rejoice. He did work on the acclaimed Underground TV show and the John Wick films were very well-liked. However, Disney already walks a tightrope by developing a show based on one of Star Wars' most beloved characters so any added writer should be, and likely is, conscious of that going in.

As mentioned previously, the release dates for any future Star Wars shows and movies on Disney+ are unknown. Further, it's likely that they'll be pushed back due to COVID-19. Everything seems to be progressing as expected, though the novel coronavirus has seemed to shift many projects' release dates forward.

The Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi series is currently in development.
