Disney Infinity 3.0 Star Wars Starter Set

The toys-to-life genre of games has really taken the gaming community by storm lately. Between Activision’s Skylanders, the Disney Infinity series, and Nintendo’s Amiibo, playing this genre of games can require spending a lot more time and money than traditional video games.

Dedicated collectors who regularly line up hours in advance for the latest toys-to-life figures should brace themselves for the next wave of Disney Infinity figures. A recent retailer leak has revealed that the Disney Infinity 3.0 starter set will focus on Star Wars.

The German retailer Saturn has mistakenly leaked information about the next set of Disney Infinity figures online, and this starter set’s subject is Star Wars. Given the anticipation for the new Star Wars films and the upcoming Battlefront game, it’s no surprise that Disney would choose to target that fandom next. Saturn’s leak has revealed some of the upcoming starter figures for Disney Infinity 3.0, which include Star Wars’ Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka in their iconic Clone Wars visual style.

While it remains to be seen what other Star Wars characters will appear in Disney Infinity style, the box includes artwork of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, Yoda, Princess Leia, Darth Maul, R2-D2 and C-3PO. Mounts and vehicles are also featured on the image, including a tauntaun, Anakin’s pod racer, and a Naboo star fighter.

According to Saturn’s retail listing, which has since been removed from their site, the set will be released sometime in August for the Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and the Wii U. Prices range from €59.99 to €69.99, which roughly converts to $67.26 to $78.47 in American dollars.

The price may seem a little steep, especially if one is accustomed to the less expensive individual Amiibo. The Disney Infinity 2.0 Marvel starter kit included three of the figures, the game disc, and one play set, but the Star Wars starter kit only includes two figures. It's unknown how many play sets or toy boxes it will come with, but the price does still seem a little high. While these starters are in the pre-existing Clone Wars style, it’s easy to imagine that more figures based off of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and potentially even Star Wars: Battlefront will emerge closer to the two’s respective release dates.

While fans of the Disney Infinity series haven’t experienced game and figure shortages quite as dire as those of Nintendo’s Amiibo, bringing Star Wars into the mix could result in much more demand. Disney has already claimed that Disney Infinity was the best-selling toys-to-life brand in 2014, so one can imagine that the Star Wars figures will only propel them even higher.

Disney Infinity 3.0 is currently rumored to release in August 2015.
