E3 2015: ‘Disney Infinity Star Wars’ PlayStation Limited Edition Revealed

By | 1 year ago

Between Skylanders, Amiibo, and Disney Infinity, the collectible figure toys-to-life gaming trend shows no signs of slowing down. The three interact with their consoles or gaming systems in nearly identical ways, but since they all have their own properties, they rarely step on each other’s toes.

Disney Infinity, for example, has the rights to Disney and Pixar properties, as well as select Marvel characters. After Disney obtained the rights to produce the newest Star Wars films, it was only a matter of time before those characters took shape as Disney Infinity figures, and an official announcement regarding Disney Infinity 3.0 has just been made at Sony’s E3 2015 press conference.

Disney Infinity 3.0 will be initially adding two Star Wars sets to its roster: one based off the original three films, and one based off the prequels. Entitled Star Wars: Rise Against the Empire and Star Wars: Twilight of the Republic respectively, the two playsets will feature iconic scenes, creatures, battles, and characters from the two trilogies. Disney will also be offering a special perk to PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 owners, with a special limited edition Disney Infinity 3.0 Star Wars starter pack exclusive to PlayStation consoles. The pack will include the Twilight of the Republic playset, Rise Against the Empire, and a special Boba Fett figure that will only be included in the limited edition. Gamers who buy the PlayStation limited edition will be able to play Rise Against the Empire a month before its standalone release.

Star Wars Disney Infinity 3.0 PlayStation Boba Fett Exclusive

While it was previously leaked that there would be Star Wars Disney Infinity 3.0 figures and playsets, this is the first time full detail on the PlayStation exclusives has been provided alongside a trailer. A third playset based off of the upcoming Star Wars film sequel trilogy was previously announced, but wasn’t mentioned during the presentation. While Boba Fett only being available via the limited edition pack may annoy some gamers, it’s still unlikely to reach the ridiculous levels of Amiibo scarcity.

The audience response to Star Wars Disney Infinity 3.0 seemed mixed at best, but it’s likely that the audience was holding out for news on the more mature Star Wars Battlefront game.
