‘Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes’ Slated for September 23 Release

By | 2 years ago

Between comic industry news and Avengers: Age of Ultron updates, Marvel super heroes are sure to be stealing plenty of headlines at Comic-Con this weekend. If you’ve been following video game news this week, you know that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have also been showing up in the gaming headlines daily. Disney Infinity 2.0 is implementing some big changes to its kid-friendly sandbox environment and Disney Interactive plans to use the Marvel characters to convince gamers to give the game another try this fall.

Thanks to the Sony-exclusive collector’s edition and details on the Guardians of the Galaxy set (which we just got our hands on at Comic-Con) Disney Infinity has remained in the spotlight all week. That trend continues today with the official confirmation of the game’s release date. Shoppers will be able to purchase Disney Infinity 2.0: Marvel Super Heroes on September 23, 2014.

The date had been rumored for a while now and doesn’t come as much of a surprise. The more exciting news might be that Disney confirmed a rewards program that will put an additional figure in the hands of shoppers for free. GameStop has been advertising a pre-order bonus that will give pre-order customers an extra figure for free and Disney clarified that the promotion will be available at “top retailers nationwide.”

Shoppers can pick between Nick Fury, Iron Fist, and Hawkeye to cash in on the $14-value free figure bonus. The hero of the shopper’s choice will come along with the Thor, Black Widow, and Iron Man figures included in the starter set. Players with more expensive taste can pick up the collector’s edition and get even more playable characters to start with. Otherwise, additional characters will be sold individually or in expansion sets like the Guardians of the Galaxy heroes.

Infinity definitely has some much better marketing this time around and it’s pretty hard to resist the urge to believe that this game might actually be much better than the original. The development team listened to a lot of the feedback concerning the shortcomings of the original game’s launch and they’ve worked to improve both the story and sandbox sides of the Infinity experience with more complex characters, talent trees, new skills, and additional building tools. We are very interested to see how many new fans are willing to give the game a try come September 23.

Do you think Infinity 2.0 will live up to all the hype surrounding it? Let us know in the comments.
