Disney announces plans to continue supporting Disney Infinity 3.0 throughout 2016, with the addition of four new Play Sets based on Marvel, Star Wars, and more.

Instead of churning out a new Disney Infinity game every year, like Activision does with its similar toys-to-life Skylanders franchise, Disney has announced plans to continue support for Disney Infinity 3.0 throughout the rest of 2016. This will be accomplished with a slew of new standalone figures, and four new Play Sets based on Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars properties.

First on deck is the Marvel Battlegrounds Play Set. This Play Set will introduce 4-player co-op to Disney Infinity 3.0, and seems to be taking some inspiration from the upcoming film Captain America: Civil War, with characters donning costumes similar to the ones that they will be wearing in the movie.

The Marvel Battlegrounds Play Set will also introduce three new Marvel characters to the mix in the form of Ant-Man, Black Panther, and Vision. Furthermore, Black Suit Spider-Man, previously only available as a bundle with the PlayStation Vita version of Disney Infinity 2.0, will now be sold as a standalone figure.

As stated previously, Disney plans on rolling out four new Play Sets for Disney Infinity 3.0 this year, so Marvel Battlegrounds certainly isn't the only thing fans can look forward to. Details on the other three Play Sets are not yet available, but one has to imagine that the upcoming Star Wars Play Set will likely be inspired by the upcoming film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The planned Pixar Play Set could be just about anything, but may take its cues from Finding Dory.

As for the "Disney" Play Set, that is truly anyone's guess. Disney has an exhausting number of intellectual properties at its disposal that it can draw from for new figures and Play Sets to add to Disney Infinity 3.0. Having said that, we do know that standalone characters from the upcoming film Zootopia are now being sold nationwide, so the Play Set will probably be based on a different Disney property.

Another Disney property that is probably safe to rule out for the Play Set is one based on The Jungle Book. This is because the character Baloo from the film will be added to Disney Infinity 3.0 as a standalone figure, meaning that Disney will probably focus its attention on something different, despite the upcoming Jungle Book reboot film.

Thanks to the success of Disney Infinity 3.0Disney Infinity was the best-selling toys-to-life game for the second year in a row, and if Disney continues to support the game this aggressively, it could have a repeat performance in 2016. After all, Activision's Skylanders franchise didn't sell as well last year, which could be a sign that consumers are sick of buying completely new games every year, and would rather just focus on building their collection of figures. Disney is giving fans the chance to do just that with all the new content coming to Disney Infinity 3.0 in 2016.

Disney Infinity 3.0 is currently available for Apple TV, Android, iOS, PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
