For the uninitiated, Disney held their ultimate fan event known as the D23 Expo over the weekend, and as expected, the entertainment titan divulged plenty of information about plans for the intellectual properties to which they currently have the rights. Whether it was the news about their world renown theme-parks – the reveal of two new Star Wars-inspired areas being built for Disneyland and Disney World wowed everyone – or in this case video games, as the disclosure regarding Kingdom Hearts 3's inclusion of a Big Hero 6 game world definitely pleased fans, many would consider the press conference a resounding success.

Not to exclude one of its more popular titles, Disney also disclosed details about the upcoming brand-blending extravaganza known as Disney Infinity 3.0. In fact, much to the audience's delight, the media conglomerate gave fans a look at the game's figures based on Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Additionally, representatives of Mickey Mouse's parent company took to the stage with developer Square Enix to reveal a crossover between Disney Infinity 3.0 and Kingdom Hearts by showing off the latter franchise's Keyblade as an Ultimate Unlock for the former.

After the Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition becomes available, players who go on to unlock all of the game's figures in the game’s Hall of Heroes will be able to wield the Keyblade. However, there's been no confirmation as to whether or not Sora's weapon of choice will be imbued with any extra special abilities other than melee attributes. While fans will have to wait for Disney Infinity 3.0's August release date to see what the Keyblade has in store for them, previous unlocks for the game that can be utilized now include a Star Wars lightsaber and landspeeder.

Additionally, fans lucky enough to attend the event were given a special power disc that will unlock Mickey Mouse's one-of-a-kind Kingdom Hearts outfit in the game. Unfortunately, for those of us unable to make it to D23 2015, it's been confirmed that the costume content for Disney's mascot will not be available for retail.

At any rate, the incorporation of the Keyblade in Disney Infinity 3.0 is sure to fill Kingdom Hearts' fans with glee once they get their hands on the weapon. Plus, the magical sword being put in the game is only the latest proprietary asset to be featured, as many more trademark properties ought to make their way into the Toy Box some time soon. For instance, just last month it was teased that an Ant-Man PlaySet could appear in the future. Plus, with Disney opening up the floor to its ardent followers a few weeks ago by allowing fans to vote for which character should star in the game, it's anyone's guess as to what will be added next.

Disney Infinity 3.0 is set to release on August 30, 2015, for Mac, PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
