[Update: Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes is unveiled here and you can find out the new gameplay features here.]

A fan-favorite original character, introduced in the first Iron Man movie, Agent Phil Coulson of S.H.I.E.L.D. became a staple of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and a core element of The Avengers. That was, until he “died” and got his own spinoff TV series on ABC. Now, with the secretive organization he works for in shambles, Coulson leads a team of trusted allies to do what’s ‘right’ and deliver justice to wrongdoers, super-powered and otherwise. If you gave up on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., now’s the time to get back in with just two episodes left in its first season.

Ever since Captain America: The Winter Soldier hit theaters at the beginning of the month, quickly become one of the most critically acclaimed and financially successful releases by Marvel Studios, Disney has been taking advantage of the big red Marvel banner for all sorts of cross-marketing and cross-merchandising. As the film came out for example, Disney Interactive release a teaser trailer for Disney Infinity 2.0 which featured Captain America’s shield – announcing that an event on April 30th (today!) would be opening the doors on the next chapter of the toy-based video game.

As for the TV series, it keeps  being marketed with the tagline “It’s all connected.” We’re just a few hours away from that event where new features and Marvel content will be unveiled for the toy box video game, and part of the presentation will feature Agent Coulson himself. But can we still call him “Agent”? Maybe we can ask him later today when he appears at the Disney Infinity 2.0 event – which by the magic of time-traveling tweets, happened yesterday.

Disney Infinity Marvel Agent Coulson Tweet

The tweet above from the official Agents of SHIELD account was erroneously posted yesterday, clearly meant to be scheduled for today. And it erases at least one surprise guest scheduled to show up at the event which begins at 1pm EST/10am PST.

Another slip-up on the D23 (Disney’s official Fan Club) website two weeks ago pointed towards August as the release window for the Marvel content, but we’ll find out for certain shortly, so stay tuned into Game Rant to find out more as it’s announced live! Will Coulson be a character in the game?

As for what else we know is coming from the game, Disney and Lucasfilm made headlines around the world yesterday with the first official cast photo and announcements for Star Wars: Episode VII. And with that property, you can expect an insurmountable amount of Disney Infinity content to begin coming out next year with the film scheduled to hit theaters next December.
