Disney is developing a female-led Star Wars TV series, a new report reveals. The company will be trying to achieve the same success that it did with its other, new Star Wars TV show, The Mandalorian, which sources say is getting a third season.

Sources speaking to Variety have revealed that Leslye Headland, the co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer of Netflix show Russian Doll, is creating the female-led Star Wars show. Headland will be a writer and showrunner on the new Star Wars series, which sources also say will be shown on Disney's streaming service, Disney Plus.

The source also said that the Star Wars show will not be part of the same timeline as other Star Wars shows or movies. This means that popular characters like Baby Yoda, Rey, Finn, or Poe, won't be showing up.

Disney hasn't officially confirmed that the show will be happening, but few will be surprised to hear about it. It has been announced that Disney Plus has 50 million subscribers which will partly be due to the popularity of shows like The Mandalorian. The company will want to keep those subscriber figures growing, and creating a new Star Wars show for the service could help it to do that.
