Since the announcement of the Toy Story update for Disney Dreamlight Valley at this year’s Disney and Marvel Games showcase, fans have eagerly been waiting for a release date, which was expected to be in late fall this year. The upcoming update will allow players to explore a new realm based solely on Pixar’s Toy Story franchise and unlock new characters and other content.

This marks the second major update for Disney Dreamlight Valley since its late August release this year. The first major update for the game featured Scar, the main antagonist from The Lion King, and his underground mine realm along with Halloween-themed content. The narrative was expanded as well with players gaining more details about why the valley fell to ruin.

Disney Dreamlight Valley’s new Toy Story realm update is expected to become available for download on December 6. In other good news, the update will release across all platforms at the same time and will be completely free to download for all players. Though the game is still in the early access stage, the recent updates are sure to make it a more solid gaming experience once it becomes free-to-play next year. The addition of a Toy Story content update in the game’s overarching story is no exception in adding to this experience.

Luckily, Gameloft released a trailer showcasing what players can expect from the new realm. The new Disney Dreamlight Valley storyline will take place in Bonnie’s room, where players will become toy-sized and aid Buzz Lightyear and Woody on a mission to complete three quests across the realm. Completing these quests unlocks Woody and Buzz’s move-in into the player’s realm. Other related content found in the second major update includes Toy Story-themed outfits players can use to customize their characters.

The game has been compared to Animal Crossing: New Horizons for its gameplay elements and cozy feel. It’s been received well by fans so far but hasn’t escaped some criticism. A lot of early access players initially took issue with how similar the game is to Animal Crossing and didn’t see it as anything more than a cynical ripoff from Disney. However, most Disney Dreamlight Valley players saw the game as a way to fill in the gap of content Animal Crossing: New Horizons lacks.

Others who’ve progressed through the game have experienced game crashes in dialogue scenes as well as some progression issues thanks to glitches in pathfinding between NPCs. Hopefully, these Disney Dreamlight Valley issues will be fully resolved, and the updates will give the game a life of its own and set it apart from other similar franchises. Either way, the game is shaping up to potentially become a successful gaming endeavor on Disney's part.

Disney Dreamlight Valley is available now in early access for Mac, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
