After several months, the third major update for Disney Dreamlight Valley is out now and available for all players. While the previous update added characters from Toy Story, it did not continue the main story of Disney Dreamlight Valley like the Scar update did.
There are still several Pillars that need to be restored in order to stop the Forgetting, and the new quest involves the Pillar in the Frosted Heights. Unlike the previous quest, there is no time gate. Upon completion of this quest, players will unlock Olaf. Here is how players can complete the new story quest 'The Great Blizzard'.
This guide contains spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.
Speak With Merlin
Once players can start this quest, they will get a cutscene depicting a large storm in the Frosted Heights. When the cutscene ends, players will automatically get the quest 'The Great Blizzard'. As ever, the first step is to go speak with Merlin. He will tell players that Elsa is unable to do anything about the blizzard, but he suspects that restoring the Pillar in the Frosted Heights will put an end to the blizzard.
Unfortunately, he has no idea where the Orb is. To make matters worse, Merlin doesn't remember what the Orb represents either. With no leads, Merlin suggests that players investigate the Frosted Heights and look for what could be the source of the blizzard.
Investigate the Frosted Heights
Head to the Frosted Heights and begin the search. The blizzard makes it difficult to see, but look for the Pillar. Once at the pillar, go toward the cliff wall to spot what appears to be a door. When players interact with it, the symbols on the door will glow and it will open.
Upon going inside, players will see a cutscene of Olaf getting his nose and buttons stolen by what appears to be squirrels made out of dark energy. With the door open, they all run outside. Once the cutscene is over, talk to Olaf. Apparently he has been trapped in the cave since the Forgetting and has been waiting for players to find him.
Chase Down the Squirrels
Before the investigation can continue, players will need to retrieve Olaf's nose and buttons from the squirrels. Go back outside and look around in the Frosted Heights for the squirrels. They are easy to spot and easy to catch up to. Once close enough, use the button prompt to capture them and retrieve what they stole. After catching all four squirrels, return to Olaf to give him his nose and buttons back. Olaf remembers that he was holding an Orb, but he doesn't remember what happened to it. But while he can't remember, the water might.
What the Water Remembers
To learn more about this, players will need to speak with Elsa. Look on the map for Elsa and go talk to her. She suggests using the Watering Can near the Pillar. Go to the Frosted Heights and use the Watering Can on the puddle of glowing water. This will trigger a cutscene and the quest will update. Go back and talk to Elsa.
From there, return to the secret chamber and speak with Olaf. There are two spots in this room where players can use the Watering Can to view additional memories related to the Orb. The first one is near Olaf, and the second one is near the portal on the other side of the room. According to the water, the Forgotten threw the Orb into the portal. Unfortunately the portal is unstable and cannot be used at present.
After talking to Olaf, look around for a book about opening portals. There are several books to pick up, but only one will advance the quest to the next step. Talk to Olaf again once the book has been found. The book reveals that the only way to stabilize the portal is to use a Dreamlight Prism.
How to Craft a Dreamlight Prism
The Dreamlight Prism is something that players will have to make. In order to craft it, players will need to gather the three pieces of the shattered prism in the secret chamber, five Purified Night Shards, and 10 Glass. This will require players to have a significant amount of Night Shards, Dream Shards, and Sand.
Once all the materials have been gathered/crafted, use a crafting station to create the Dreamlight Prism. This item is listed under the functional items tab on the crafting menu. With the Dreamlight Prism crafted, it is time to head back to the secret chamber.
What Gems Are Needed For the Pedestals?
Even after placing the Dreamlight Prism, the portal can't be opened yet. There are three pedestals that are missing gems. The three gems that players need to place on the vacant pedestals are Amethyst, Emerald, and Citrine. One important note is that players only need to use the regular versions of these gems, as the shiny versions do not work for this quest. Emeralds can be found in the Forest of Valor and the Glade of Trust. Citrines can be found in the Glade of Trust and the Sunlit Plateau. Finally, Amethysts can be found in the Forgotten Lands and the Frosted Heights.
Once all gems have been placed onto the pedestals, players will need to approach the portal and tell it what their darkest fear is. Only three options are given and there are no wrong answers here. A cutscene will play and players will obtain the Orb. Unfortunately the Orb has lost its power just like in the previous story quest, and it will not be able to restore the Pillar. Speak with Olaf, and another cutscene will play as the Orb regains its power.
Take the Orb back to the Pillar outside and insert it. The blizzard will disappear and the final step of the quest is to go back and speak with Olaf. Upon completing this quest, players will unlock Olaf and will be able to give him gifts and receive friendship quests from him.
