As far as 2021 is concerned, Cruella was one of the heavily anticipated movies. A bit similar to the previously hugely successful Maleficent (2014), Cruella offered a unique look at the origins of the iconic 101 Dalmatians villain. With Emma Stone portraying the titular character, Cruella is a fun, fast-paced, and smart film ideal for people of all age groups.

Full of humor, action, and great performances, the film has already managed to score 89 million dollars and a sequel is already greenlighted. With all of the things that made Cruella amazing, there are also a few things that don't make that much sense if one thinks truly hard about the film.

Nobody Questioned Cruella's Sudden Inheritance

Cruella three dalmatians sit in the Hell Hall In the film's finale, Estella fakes her own death. The Baroness' estate then goes to Cruella. It's a small wonder no one made the connection between the two women or even bothered to ask why exactly would the Baroness' daughter transferred her estate to the infamous fashion designer and a criminal. In the real world, it would also be possible a lot of people would try to get the estate for themselves as well as the Baroness' business. After all, it's possible the Baroness could have distant relatives who could want her property for themselves.

Catherine Managed To Pay For Estella's Education

Cruella Catherine is Cruella's adoptive mom Catherine, Estella's adoptive mother, meets her untimely end when she goes to the Baroness and asks her for money for her daughter. It's clear even before that Catherine and Estella aren't doing so well financially. That's what makes it strange that Catherine would be able to pay for Estella's education since studying in the UK can be quite expensive. And it doesn't seem like Estella would be the type of student to get a student stipend. She was brilliant, yes, but also unruly and did what she wanted.

Catherine Didn't Sell The Jewel

Cruella goes to steal the family heirloom Of course, one of the biggest nonsense points in the film is why Catherine didn't sell the jewel she stole from the Baroness. The only possible explanation could be she was worried it would draw the attention of the police to her. Or maybe she was emotionally attached to the piece of jewel. She could have wanted it to stay with Estella as it was her family heirloom. Whatever the case, there's no denying that selling the precious jewel would solve all of Catherine's financial problems. As such, she wouldn't need to visit the Baroness and ask her for money which led to her death. Then again, if Catherine sold the jewel, the film would have ended much earlier.

Anita Helped Estella Despite Endangering Her Career

It's only hinted at in the movie but Estella's childhood friend, Anita, has endangered her career by writing about Cruella and taking her pictures. The Baroness had a lot of power and she did threaten Anita she would make her feel sorry for her actions. Despite that, nothing came out of it.

It's one of the storylines that would have deserved more space in the film. But it's quite possible the film's creators just didn't want to draw the attention away from Estella/Cruella and her conflict with the Baroness.

John Doesn't Lie To The Baroness

Cruella John has a worried look on his face John, the Baroness' right hand, initially seems to be a bad guy but he turns out to be quite a good person in the end. It's him who saves Estella's life, and not just once, but twice. First, he gives the baby Estella to Catherine. The second time, he pulls Estella out of the fire. However, John does make a bit of a mistake at one point. When the Baroness asked him about Estella, he could have easily lied and said he left her for dead instead of confessing he didn't harm the little girl. This way, John would have attained the Baroness' trust more easily as the blame for saving Estella would fall on someone else.

The Baroness Keeps Trusting John

Cruella the Baroness wears a black and white outfit Of course, even bigger nonsense is that the Baroness keeps trusting John even after he confesses the truth about Estella's fate. The Baroness is a highly intelligent and suspicious woman. After all, she does figure out that Estella is Cruella. Still, it never occurs to her that John might have been the one to save Estella's life or that he was planning to betray her. For someone who watches her employees like a hawk, the Baroness is surprisingly ignorant when it comes to John.

Estella's Age

Cruella Emma Stone models her dalmatian-themed coat The movie doesn't specify how old Estella is. But based on the information the audience gets, she seems to be approximately 22 years old by the time she starts working for the Baroness. That creates several questions. For example, did no one think it strange that such a young person could have such a full resume? Jasper makes a fake CV for Estella when she applies for her dream job. He fills it with fake experiences and Estella's future employees don't notice anything strange.

Of course, Jasper could have just made Estella older on the CV. And also, from a more practical point of view, Emma Stone, who's 32 and therefore 10 years older than her character, doesn't at times quite look the age she portrays.

Estella's Unusual Hair Color

Cruella visits Anita at her work Another thing about Estella that might raise some eyebrows is her natural hair color. Of course, this is based on the animated films where Cruella always had black and white hair. However, it's impossible for a person to be born with hair like this. So from a logical point of view, it would make sense if Estella had unified hair (red, blonde, black, it doesn't matter so much). She could change her hair color later on once she started presenting herself as Cruella.

The Relationship Between Estella And Jasper

Cruella attends the funeral with Jasper and Horace The film focuses primarily on Cruella's origin story - her effort to achieve her dream career and her fight against the Baroness. However, one of the storylines that were hinted at but never properly detailed is the relationship between Estella and Jasper. It's quite obvious that Jasper likes Estella. That's one of the reasons he's so disappointed when he starts acting like Cruella. However, the film never takes the time to explain whether Estella could feel a similar way about Jasper.

Cruella's Future Hate For Dalmatians

Cruella walks the three dalmatians Finally, the film makes the audience wonder how exactly Cruella started hating dalmatians. In this film, she's mostly indifferent toward them despite the fact they were indirectly responsible for Catherine's death. Cruella has the option to kill the three dogs later on but she doesn't do it. However, in 101 Dalmatians, Cruella already hates Dalmatians. What's more, she has no problem with killing the dogs (puppies included) and making coats out of their fur. Somewhere along the way, Cruella started hating Dalmatians. Yet this film never explains how it happened or why. With that said, there's a distinct possibility a sequel to this film could explain the matter more clearly.
