A few new screenshots have been released for Arkane Studios' forthcoming stealth actioner Dishonored. While, so far, marketing for the game has done a solid job of setting up the world of Dishonored, we still don't know enough about the game to make a conscious decision about it. The design of the levels is pretty impeccable, and the combination of Elder Scrolls style dual-hand ability management does have its advantages, but those slim details only leave us wanting more.

Unfortunately, these new screenshots do exactly that: leave us wanting more. Most of the screens are either of scenes we have seen from a different perspective or of locales without any notion of movement or character. But, if you're the type of gamer who likes to gush over screenshots, this is a very good-looking game.

As hinted by the game's first trailer, players will have access to a wide variety of abilities and weapons, most of which are extremely unique for a first person action title. The addition of elemental powers might draw some comparisons between BioShock and Skyrim, but the setting and character designs set this as its own entity.

While not much is known about Dishonored as far as story and character details go, Arkane Studios' dedication to delivering a title that is open-world in its mechanics rather than its level design sounds immensely intriguing. Bethesda Softworks, who are partnering with Arkane for the game, has a solid track record of delivering unique gameplay experience, but oftentimes their lofty aspirations lead to bug-filled messes.

If Dishonored, in trying to tell a more focused story, can step away from those problematic developmental areas then we might have another title to look out for in 2012. The game might closely resemble BioShock, or more specifically BioShock Infinite in a lot of key ways, but that doesn't mean we are any less excited to get our hands on Dishonored.

What do you think of these new Dishonored screenshots? Would you like a closer look at the game in motion or do you enjoy the pretty pictures?

Dishonored is slated for a 2012 release on the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
