With Dishonored: Death of the Outsider having just launched, players everywhere are loading up the standalone expansion and stepping back into the shoes of an assassin. In the latest DLC by Arkane Studios, Dishonored fans will be playing as former Whaler assassin Billie Lurk, and it seems like the additional content will contain a handful of references for the more experienced of gamers to pick up on.

During a sequence of Dishonored: Death of the Outsider's third mission, players are able to find their way onto the roof of the bank where a tribute to FromSoftware's beloved Dark Souls series can be seen. The reference comes in the form of the series' iconic bonfires, though this one is purely for show.

This isn't the first game to pay tribute to Dark Souls in this exact way, and Overwatch and Battlefield 1 are just two examples of titles which have included the bonfire in-game. In the World War One shooter, the sword that emerges from the flaming construction is even wieldable, though it offers no additional benefits to the user.

In that same level, players can also come across a safe deposit box in the bank which is under the name of Morgan Yu, the protagonist's name from Prey. It seems that Arkane Studios is going all out with the references with its latest expansion, and there are likely a lot more secrets waiting to be found in the coming weeks.

In other recent Dishonored news, creative director Harvey Smith has announced that this latest DLC will be the end of an era when it comes to Corvo and Emily's story. The arc that began when Jessamine Kaldwin lost her life at the beginning of the first game is finally reaching its conclusion as Billie and her mentor Daud attempt to track down and kill the mysterious Outsider.

Dishonored: Death of the Outsider will launch on September 15, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
