The social media and messaging app Discord has seen an influx of users in the wake of worldwide closures due to the coronavirus pandemic, so much so that the service expanded its server capacity in March.

Now, in an attempt to make voice quality clearer for video game-focused communities, friend groups, and businesses that have moved to work in potentially "non-ideal" situations at home, Discord has announced a partnership with Krisp.ai to beta test background noise suppression when using voice chat. The feature is available on desktop and mobile now, as  Discord "didn't want to wait on technology that can be helpful in a lot of your current situations."

Usage of Discord has doubled in Spain and France since this year began according to the Discord Blog post today announcing this beta test, and it has tripled in Italy. Similar usage spikes have been seen in a number of multiplayer-focused games like Psyonix Studios' Rocket League.

Anyone jumping onto Discord while self-quarantining should be wary of a fake Twitch scam circulating the app that was recently pointed out by Reddit users.
