ZA/UM's 2019 detective role-playing game Disco Elysium is something of a cult hit, with fans and critics praising the game's story and bleak aesthetic. The RPG was also recently ported to the Nintendo Switch, which suggests that it's moving away from being just a cult game into something a bit more mainstream. As it grows in popularity, the studio continues to work on updates for it, with a recent patch implementing what appear to be some minor changes, but ones that are pleasing to fans.

In a post published on the official Disco Elysium Steam page, the patch notes have been mentioned about the latest update which went live a few days ago. The notes outline a number of changes that have been made to the game, such as increasing the font size, making the user interface "bigger and cleaner" as well as some other visual improvements. One thing that's also of interest is the fact that it also says that, post optimization, the game install size is now "significantly smaller" than it was.

While the update may not seem to be immensely significant, some people on the PC gaming subReddit have expressed their joy at these changes. Some have said how much easier it is for them to see the on-screen text now that the font has increased, with one user saying that their "old man eyes thank the developers" for the bigger text. This is likely down to improvements in video game accessibility which is something many studios are now starting to implement. An increase in font size means people who struggle to see small writing can do so more clearly now. Not to mention, having a clearer UI is also going to improve people's experience of the game.

The Final Cut version of Disco Elysium came with significant improvements, which go towards "quality of life." One major change was that all the dialogue had voice acting, and considering there are nearly 300 characters in the game, that's not a small feat. It also shows that the studio is keen to keep working on the game to make it more accessible for those that have yet to experience it.

Despite the rise in popularity, and the updates that are improving the game, Disco Elusium is still something of an underrated RPG. It's also been the subject of controversy, particularly in Australia, with the country's classification board originally declining to give it an age rating, which prevented physical copies from going on sale. Thankfully, that ban was lifted a few months ago.

Disco Elysium is available now on PC, Mac, PS4, PS5, Switch, Stadia, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.
