The Xbox Series X release draws closer, and as it does, fans waiting eagerly to get their hands on the next gen console are learning more about the titles that will launch on the console. Although some of the marketing for the Xbox Series X has been a little odd, straightforward gameplay previews have offered better insight into how the console performs. One that has been given a good deal of press lately is Dirt 5, and based on a slew of previews of the Xbox Series X version of the game, it performs very well on the next gen hardware.

Dirt 5 has been used in a number of cases to show off the power of the Xbox Series X as well as how the Xbox Series S handles the workload. The racing game makes for a good test subject as it is fast-paced, has a range of environments, and looks flashy. This most recent set of previews looks at a couple of performance elements gamers are interested in, FPS and loading times.

Reports indicate that on the Xbox Series X, Dirt 5 can run steady at 120 frames-per-second with a compatible 120Hz television or monitor. To achieve such a high frame rate there are a few small compromises noticeable in game, with players experiencing a little more pop-in and reduced crowd size. A player ripping through Dirt 5's recently showcased China stage likely isn't going to care if a few less spectators are visible on the side of the track when they are enjoying 120 FPS, however.

As for loading times, these early previews report that players can expect to be in game, ready to take the green flag and get racing in under 15 seconds. Some outlets have referred to the load times as "blisteringly fast."

So far, Dirt 5 on the next gen hardware looks pretty impressive. As an early indication of what to expect with the Xbox Series X, it gives players an idea of what the leap to the next generation means. This iz from a game that is not even next-gen exclusive, as during the transition period there will be a number of Xbox One games being ported over and upscaled.

There isn't much longer to wait for the next gen consoles to arrive, and soon fans will get to experience Dirt 5 at 120 frames-per-second and really feel the speed.

Dirt 5 will hit the streets on November 6 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, November 10 for Xbox Series X , November 12 for PS5, and a 2021 release for Stadia.
