When it comes to RPGs, few names stand as tall as Square Enix. Top-notch mechanics, world-building, and character design set its games apart from its innumerable competitors in the genre. It's therefore no surprise that every game the company releases is awaited with bated breath.

The DioField Chronicle, a collaboration between Square Enix and Lancarse, lives up to this same standard for excellence. Battles in the game are complex. The abilities, skills, and equipment of every character makes a significant difference in the player's success. Like the other characters, Andrias Rhondarson has multiple abilities that can be upgraded, leaving players to wonder which to prioritize. Here's everything players need to know about upgrading Andrais in the early-game.

The DioField Chronicle - Andrias Weapon

Andrias has three starting abilities: Fast-Hitter, Technique Boost, and Evasion Boost, which increase Attack Speed, Technique, and Evasion, respectively. Andrias is something of a glass cannon and so many players will lean toward Evasion Boost as a starting skill, since it will help him stay on his feet longer. There's another setup in which he's even stronger, however.

When deciding which early abilities will be most effective with a given character, the player must consider which weapon they will be paired with. As is true in most RPGs, the more expensive the weapon, the better it typically is. Though this is generally the case in The DioField Chronicle, Andrias actually benefits from using a cheaper weapon in the early game. Though the Knight's Short Sword has a buff to damage against Beasts, the Harpe does superior damage as well as the Assassination Skill, which is crucial for making the most of Andrias's abilities early on.

Assassination is a damaging ability that normally has an 8s cooldown. If Assassination is used to kill an enemy, however, the cooldown is eliminated, allowing the player to immediately use it again. This makes Assassination fantastic for carving through enemies quickly. To make the most of this, the player will want to focus on upgrading Fast-Hitter and Technique Boost.

Technique is the stat that determines how much damage the player deals with skills as well as how often skills result in Critical Hits. Because Andrias is strongest when used as a pure DPS character, players should focus on upgrading Technique Boost to make the most of Assassination and other powerful skills. Though focusing on Assassination means Andrias isn't much for crowd control, that's fine: other party members can deal AoE while Andrias concentrates on one enemy at a time.

Fast-Hitter is also good, since Andrias can deal significant damage even when not using Assassination. Fast-Hitter should be the player's focus once Technique Boost has been upgraded, but be mindful that Andrias can go down quickly if he draws too much aggro. Use a hardier character to draw enemy attention and tank hits while getting them to turn their back to Andrias, opening them up for increased Backstab damage. This technique, combined with Andrias's two DPS-focused upgrades and Assassination skill, will allow him to slice through enemies in no time.

The DioField Chronicle is available for the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
