Capcom hasn't released a new Dino Crisis game since the poorly-received Dino Crisis 3 in 2003, but fans have been holding out hope for a revival. Capcom still hasn't announced anything official about bringing Dino Crisis back, but it has recently renewed the trademark for the franchise, giving fans hope that they may see the dinosaur survival-horror franchise eventually come back from the dead.

Rumors have persisted for years that Capcom is making a new Dino Crisis game, only for nothing to materialize. However, Capcom has openly admitted in recent years that it plans on leveraging its library of games to produce remakes, remasters, and more. Based on this, a Dino Crisis remake seems like a no-brainer, especially when the company has exhausted the list of Resident Evil games it can remake.

If Capcom does decide to move forward with a Dino Crisis remake or a new game in the series, it seems like it would be a long way off from release. After all, the Resident Evil 3 remake is set to launch this coming April, and there are brand new video game consoles on the horizon. Based on the timing, it seems like Capcom would be better off releasing the new Dino Crisis on next-generation platforms instead of current-gen consoles.

Another possibility would be for Capcom to remaster the PS1-era Dino Crisis games instead of developing full-fledged remakes. This would be a relatively low-cost way for Capcom to test the waters and see if there is a market for a new Dino Crisis game before it dedicates any resources to such a project.

Dino Crisis may not be the only classic Capcom franchise to get a revival, however. The company also filed trademarks for Power StoneRockman, and Darkstalkers. But before fans get too excited about the possibility of Capcom bringing any of these franchises back, it's worth noting that trademark renewal doesn't mean that the company actually plans on using the trademarks any time soon.

Capcom's desire to re-release its games makes a possible Dino Crisis revival more likely, but fans shouldn't get their hopes up. Take any news about Dino Crisis with a grain of salt until Capcom itself makes an announcement.

Dino Crisis is out now for PS1.
