Dinkum is a duo farming simulator and survival game. Farming and planting seeds is one way for players to earn Dinks, complete Milestones, and grow produce.

When players first move to the island, they start from scratch and build a community from the ground up. Dinkum does this without forcing players to take one set path, and even though farming is a key gameplay feature, players have options for how they want to get it done.

Before players can start planting seeds, they must get an Excavation License and purchase a shovel from John the shop owner or get a Farming License and purchase a hoe from Rayne, one of the island visitors.

Both Licenses can be applied for by talking to Fletch in the Base Tent. It will cost 500 Permit Points for an Excavation License and 250 for a Farming License. Permit Points are earned by completing Milestones. Players can find information on Milestones and their awards in the handbook.

Where To Find Seeds

After getting the correct licenses and tools, players can start to plant seeds. Seeds can be found by buying them from Rayne or by chopping down bushes, grass, and trees by obtaining a Logging License and an axe from John.

Planting trees found further on the island near the base tent can help later on when gathering materials for different town buildings.

How to Plant Seeds with a Shovel

Dinkum Shovel And Trees

Using a shovel is a bit more of an investment because of the additional Dinkum license needed to cut down the endemic plant species. The steps to plant seeds with a shovel are below:

  • Find any spot on the ground that doesn't have a tree or building on it.
  • Select the shovel from the item list.
  • Dig a hole by right-clicking. The dirt will say in the shovel even if something else is selected.
  • Select the seed that is going to be planted. Note: Only one seed at a time can be planted.
  • Drop the seed in the hole by clicking "Q."
  • Reselect the shovel and right-click to drop the dirt back over the hole.

How to Plant Seeds With a Hoe

Dinkum Planting Seeds With A Hoe

If farming is the intended goal, tilling up land will provide all kinds of useful produce that can be sold for Dinks or eaten. Here's how to plant seeds using a hoe:

  • Start the same way by finding an empty plot of land to work on.
  • Select the hoe from the item list.
  • Till the land by right-clicking.
  • Select the seeds.
  • Drop them on the tilled land.
  • Reselect the hoe and right-click to plant the seeds.

Using a watering can or rain will help seeds sprout and grow faster.

Dinkum is available on PC.
