Since Digimon Survive was first announced in 2018, the newest game based on the popular monster-taming franchise has seen plenty of rough patches throughout its development. The game has seen numerous delays over the past few years and has changed hands multiple times, most recently to Rune Factory 5 developer Hyde. However, the most recent shift seems to have been a positive change for the long-delayed game. With just over a month until the game's scheduled release date, Bandai Namco has released a new trailer for Digimon Survive.

While Digimon Survive has spent several years stuck in "development hell," recent trailers have given fans an in-depth look at what to expect from the Digimon game. Recent trailers have introduced Survive as a blend between visual novel storytelling and turn-based strategy for its gameplay segments. Survive will also look to stray from past Digimon games through its darker storytelling as well as changing how the franchise's core Digivolution mechanic works. Now, Digimon Survive's newest trailer gives players a deeper look at both the game's premise and its strategic elements.

Digimon Survive's "Release Date Trailer" released Wednesday morning re-introduces fans to the cast of Survive with Takuma Momozuka and his companions trapped in a mysterious world. The game's storytelling aspects will play out like a visual novel with elements of adventure games mixed in, tasking players with moving between different locations and finding clues to the mysteries surrounding the world. Digimon battles will take the form of turn-based strategy with players commanding a squad of Digimon, operating similar to games like Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Tactics.

The newest Digimon Survive trailer also confirms the release date announced during a producer update video in April. Digimon Survive is set to launch near the end of next month on July 29th for most modern platforms. The conclusion of the trailer also reveals a launch bonus players can pick up for a short time after the game's release, giving players a free Guilmon and HP Support equipment. Survive's launch will come almost exactly four years after the game was initially announced in July 2018.

Digimon Survive's long-awaited release will come as the first major game from the Digimon franchise in a few years. The franchise's last major game, Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory, first released in 2017 in Japan and 2018 worldwide with Switch and PC versions coming later in 2019. Meanwhile, the fan-favorite Digimon World franchise has been dormant for half a decade with Digimon World Next Order International Version releasing in early 2017. Digimon Survive will be a welcomed return to the classic franchise that looks to bring a fresh new take on Digimon.

Digimon Survive is scheduled to release on July 29, 2022 for PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S
