Digimon Survive is the latest title in the series' sprawling number of games after several years without a new entry, and it brings together some of its most recognizable and popular Digimon alongside new faces and characters. Though it has received a mixed response from fans, certain elements of its design broke new ground, including its dedication to player agency and enhancement of its storyline, complete with darker tones and even game-changing permanent deaths. With its stakes raised, Digimon Survive threw players directly into the challenge of keeping their favorite characters alive.

Many Digimon didn't make it into Digimon Survive given the series' extensive breadth of monsters it can choose from across the digidex, but even some of the more popular Digimon from the series didn't make the cut. While reasons might range from similarity to other playable monsters to a lack of direct appeal for their inclusion, some fans wonder whether the game might receive further expansion or DLC down the line to add even greater diversity to its current roster.

GeoGreymon

Agumon is arguably the most iconic and consequently most popular Digimon of all time from the series, and so its inclusion in Digimon Survive was to be expected. However, one of Agumon's many digivolutions, GeoGreymon, doesn't appear in the game despite being popularized by the Digimon Data Squad series. It's likely that GeoGreymon wasn't included because Greymon already was in the game, and rather than complicate digivolution further for players, developer Hyde decided to keep things straightforward. It does mean that some of Agumon's possible digivolved forms aren't accessible though in Digimon Survive.

Gaomon

Another Digimon that was popularized by the Digimon Data Squad series was Gaomon. While it's similar to Gabumon as a counterpart to Agumon and its respective digivolved forms, Gaomon holds an entirely unique line of Digimon that didn't make it into Digimon Survive. Though it could be compared to Gabumon in design, taking plenty of inspiration from wolves, Gaomon is distinct enough that it could have featured alongside Agumon and Gabumon. It may not have appeared because it doesn't hold quite as much popularity as the others who did make it into Digimon Survive.

Terriermon

Terriermon from Digimon Tamers anime series

From the earlier series Digimon Tamers, Terriermon was one of three Digimon first seen and used by the main three protagonists, including Guilmon and Renamon. But while these two are both featured in Digimon Survive, Terriermon doesn't appear. It's possible that Lopmon was included in its place, as maybe this best suited Hyde's design choices when making Lopmon a partner to Shuuji Kayama. Since the two Digimon are very similar in design but not in digivolution, Hyde likely chose whichever Digimon fulfilled its intentions and reflected its partner best as both are equally popular.

Veemon

Very early on it was confirmed that Veemon would not be featuring in Digimon Survive, something which left many fans disappointed and hoping Veemon would be included in later updates. Another Digimon popularized by the anime series, Veemon appeared alongside Davis Motomiya in Digimon Adventure 02 and would serve as a parallel to the earlier series' Agumon. Given the immediate popularity of the earliest Digimon anime series, it's unclear why Veemon wasn't included in Digimon Survive, as not only Agumon was included but Guilmon too. Should there be future updates to the game, many fans believe Veemon should be the first new Digimon to be added.

Devimon

Devimon

Even before Digimon Survive had been released, fans were also calling for Devimon to be added to the game. Also popularized by the earliest Digimon Adventure anime series, Devimon was an iconic antagonist that remains readily recognizable and holds classic roots in the series. When the game was officially launched, however, Devimon was nowhere to be seen, and instead, fans were given MarineDevimon. Players are unsure why Devimon was passed over for a Marine counterpart, as Devimon is significantly more popular than what was provided. Much like with Veemon, fans hope future updates to the game could give Devimon a place in the game.

Digimon Survive is available now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
