Bandai Namco Entertainment's Digimon Survive has been a long time coming for fans of the digital monster franchise. Originally slated to come in 2019, several factors forced the game to be delayed and miss several targeted release dates. It wasn't until about a month ago where Digimon Survive's release date was solidified. This highly anticipated game will finally be coming to fans later this Summer on July 29.

Part of the delays comes from Digimon Survive's ambitiously massive narrative scope and variety of gameplay on offer. This includes multiple endings based on the player's choices. These choices could also affect a Digimon's digivolution process or even potentially kill off major characters in the game. The game will be mainly feature visual novel sequences with turn-based strategy RPG combat. Both of these gameplay styles were showcased in a recent video.

This new Digimon Survive video was shown off at a Korean convention known as Rulicon 2022, with a couple of minutes of gameplay shown. The video was showcased by chief producer Kazumasa Habu, with the video being shown at this event due to the Digimon's brand growing popularity in the region. While the video is short, it gives fans an in-depth look of what to expect of the game in terms of both the strategy and visual novel choices.

It features the protagonist of Digimon Survive, Takuma, making a narrative choice, as well as Agumon and a new Digimon called Falcomon. After the brief visual novel segment, the video shifts over to the turn-based strategy portion, already in the middle of battle. It shows how players can take advantage of certain positions on the battlefield, such as being on the enemy's side or behind to inflict higher damage on a spider-like Digimon enemy.

In the middle of the battle, there is a cutscene that shows that Digivolutions will occur during battles in Digimon Survive. This is showcased with the ever classic Agumon evolving into the iconic Greymon, with a mixture of 3D and 2D animation during this process. There are plenty of fans who are incredibly hyped for this release after so many delays, and being able to see part of the gameplay is fueling that hype further.

Digimon Survive will release on July 29th for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
