Die by the Blade has announced a release date accompanying its latest trailer, showing off the game's precision sword fighting and punishing one-hit-kill mechanics. The game's intricate combat system and unforgiving lethality are a refreshing change of pace that makes Die by the Blade an indie game worth keeping an eye out for when it releases.

After debuting on the Gamesradar+ Future Games Show in 2020, Die by the Blade captivated many fighting game fans hoping for something new. The game has had a promising development process, fully achieving its Kickstarter goal within a month, followed by winning a "Best games by Unreal Engine" award at the White Nights Dev Contest. As a spiritual successor to the classic PS1 sword fighting game Bushido Blade, Dy by the Blade's main appeal is its no-nonsense combat where every attack is potentially lethal, requiring players to master their combos and hone their reflexes if they wish to stand a chance. With the release date revealed to be November 3, gamers won't have to wait much longer to start channeling their inner samurai.

Die by the Blade's release date announcement trailer depicts many of the game's key features and the diversity of its characters, weapons, and locations. Rather than move sets being tied to individual characters, as in fighting games like Tekken and Mortal Kombat, Die by the Blade instead allows for any character to equip any weapon and use its fighting style. This lets players choose their favorite characters, each of which comes with its own backstory and customization options. The cast of characters is impressively diverse, including a megacorp operative, a drunken samurai master, a resistance fighter, as well as traditional samurai.

The game's setting is best described as "samurai-punk," a combination of the popular cyberpunk theme and traditional Japanese samurai culture. Although the characters come from a variety of backgrounds and countries, the arsenal of available weapons is restricted to samurai weapons such as the two-handed nodachi, the naginata pole weapon, the dual-wielded wakizashi, the straight-edged chokuto, and of course the katana. Each weapon has clear strengths and weaknesses and players will need to master the game's system of directional parries and attacks that bring to mind For Honor's intuitive directional combat.

Die by the Blade features a single-player campaign that follows the story of a lone traveling swordsman, while also featuring VS mode fights against AI, local VS battles, tournament mode, and online multiplayer with matchmaking and friend invitations. With a solid set of features, an intriguing setting, and inspiration from classic PS1 fighting games, Die by the Blade is shaping up to be a promising addition to the world of fighting games.

Die by the Blade is releasing for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X on November 3, and it arrives on Nintendo Switch in 2023.
