Blizzard Entertainment's annual gaming convention, BlizzCon 2018, is almost here, and in order to prepare fans for the festivities, the company recently released the official schedule for the event. This year ought to be jam packed with plenty of news about what's to come for such titles as Overwatch, Hearthstone, and World of Warcraft, but one portion of the schedule potentially suggests that a reveal for a new Diablo game could happen that weekend.

After the BlizzCon 2018 opening ceremony ends on Friday, November 2, Blizzard has a panel scheduled thereafter called "Diablo: What’s Next", and due to the fact that this spot at the event is often reserved for the company's “big announcement”, fans are expecting a new project related to the action-RPG to be announced. Should that occur, it would likely feel like the right timing considering the franchise didn't partake at last year's event.

Several months ago, a Blizzard job listing all but confirmed that a fresh entry in the series is on the way, with the post having called for qualified Artists, Animators, and Engineers to assist in the development of a “new, unannounced Diablo project.” Of course, with the fans of the company holding a particular affinity for the action-RPG franchise, it's safe to say that Blizzard will take its time when it comes to rolling out a sequel. With that being said, there's always the chance that the BlizzCon 2018 announcement is related to a big, new expansion for Diablo 3.

All things considered, it looks as if Blizzard has multiple irons in the fire when it comes to the Diablo franchise as a whole, with a Nintendo Switch port of Diablo 3 on the way, and even a rumored animated series with Netflix in the works. So, with the studio putting such a focus on the Diablo brand at this point in time, it would certainly make sense if a new game were announced at BlizzCon 2018.

An announcement pertaining to "What's Next" for the Diablo franchise will take place at 2:30 CDT on Friday, November 2, 2018 at BlizzCon 2018.
