It's been almost four years following Activision Blizzard's infamous "do you guys not have phones" announcement of Diablo Immortal, the mobile rendition of one of the world's most renowned classic hack 'n' slash franchises. Since then, developers have been working on the game in the background, as well as hosting a variety of alpha and beta testing phases that players could sing up for.Up until now, however, nobody really knew when Activision Blizzard would be ready to finally launch the game, or if it would indeed remain exclusive to Android and iOS operating systems. The latest batch of announcements about Diablo Immortal answers many of these questions, as well as confirms its actual release date.Coming as part of Activision Blizzard's latest Diablo Immortal event, the announcement confirms that the game would be fully playable on mobile phones on June 2nd. Perhaps more pertinent is the fact that there's a fully-fledged PC build of the game in active development as well, whose open beta testing phase would begin on June 2nd as well. This means that PC players might have a less polished experience playing Diablo Immortal at first, but that the game should reach parity with mobile builds within a reasonable time frame.
Diablo Immortal was supposed to launch in 2021 at first, but its release date got pushed back a fair bit due to developers needing to polish up large batches of its content. The fact that Activision Blizzard was hit by a series of harassment and toxic workplace allegations is sure to have had an effect too, however. To say nothing of the looming Microsoft acquisition that is, as of yet, still up in the air.
The delay should lead to a richer and more polished gaming experience across the board, thankfully. Developers working on the game claim that Diablo Immortal has a rich endgame, even when compared to its mainline predecessor, Diablo 3, which should work wonders when it comes to maintaining a stable player base over a long period of time.
Finally, even with all the negativity surrounding its initial announcement, Diablo Immortal actually seems to be pretty great, according to playtesters. Over the past few years, Activision Blizzard has invited many players to try Immortal's beta versions, and impressions were always generally very positive. As the game is fully free-to-play, it's reasonable to expect that most people will give it a shot, at the very least. Especially now that it's confirmed to be coming to PC.
Diablo Immortal is coming to Android and iOS on June 2nd, which is also when the open beta for PC will begin.
