When Diablo Immortal streamer Quin69 told viewers that the road to $20,000 had begun during one of his streams last week, few could have foreseen that he'd ever reach the end of it. After all, the odds that he had already spent more than NZ$10,000 on Diablo Immortal without getting a single 5/5-Star Legendary Gem already seemed unlikely enough. Sadly, however, the streamer's luck hasn't improved one bit since then.
Eight days and countless Rifts later, Quin69 has now reached yet another unlikely milestone, with his most recent stream pushing his total spend well past the NZ$20,000 mark. Unfortunately for him, due to the way that Diablo Immortal's controversial pity system works, he's still no closer to getting his hands on one of the elusive 5/5-Star Legendary Gems than he was when he first started spending.
In just a few weeks, Quin69 has spent a staggering NZ$20,915.82 without getting a single 5/5-Star Legendary Gem. Given that the optimum build would require six such gems, he still has an awful long way to go in order to reach perfection. In fact, it's now looking as though YouTube channel Bellular News' assertions that it could cost around $110,000 to fully gear up in Diablo Immortal may actually have been a massive underestimate on their part.
Of course, to say that Quin69 has gained nothing from the experience would be a little inaccurate. For one thing, the streamer has picked up thousands of new followers across his socials since shooting to notoriety, which will no doubt have helped to finance his spending. He also has a pretty OP setup in Diablo Immortal, as evidenced by his daily excursions into the game's PvP.
NZ$20,000 may not be enough to guarantee a 5/5-Star Legendary Gem, but it can still buy some pretty decent gear. As a result, Quin69 is regularly able to rack up double-digit killstreaks in Diablo Immortal's PvP, though, due to how much he has spent on the game and its pay-to-win nature, this is perhaps to be expected. His viewers are always quick to remind him of this, with comments like "well paid" and "nice pays" flooding the chat whenever he brags about his accomplishments.
Some have even gone as far as to brand Quin69 as part of the problem, arguing that his reckless spending may encourage impressionable viewers to gamble with money that they can't afford to lose, while also serving as justification to those behind the game's aggressive monetization. Others have expressed concerns about the streamer's mental health, due not only to the tens of thousands of dollars that he has now squandered on Diablo Immortal but also to the rage that he often displays when things aren't going his way in-game.
