Activision Blizzard has released Diablo Immortal to countless downloads, and many players have expressed their frustrations with the microtransactions in the few days since its launch. One Diablo Immortal fan has pointed out one big problem with the mobile game's pity system when trying to acquire a 5-Star Gem.

Reddit user HolyFuror recently posted an example of their experiences in Diablo Immortal, highlighting the microtransactions regarding Gems and Legendary Crests. Legendary Crests are used to access Elder Rifts in Diablo Immortal, which helps higher leveled players earn Legendary Gems required to empower some of the ARPG's strongest gear. If Diablo Immortal players collect 50 Legendary Crests, they can exchange the Crests for one guaranteed 5-Star Gem, but HolyFuror has noted that this doesn't mean the gem is given a fully 5-star ranking.

HolyFuror has created an image showing some Diablo Immortal microtransactions and why players don't get a 5 out of 5-Star Gem when exchanging 50 Legendary Crests for the guaranteed Gem. The image shows that Diablo Immortal fans may expect the aforementioned 5 out of 5-Star Gem based on the in-game language, but Activision Blizzard has already mentioned in the shop overview why this isn't the case. When Diablo Immortal players exchange their 50 Legendary Crests for the guaranteed 5-Star Gem, it could have any value between one and five stars, and this will come down to RNG.

The official Activision Blizzard language displayed in the shop overview states that the guaranteed gem has a ? out of 5 value, and the included probabilities show 2 out of 5 as 75% likely, while a 5-star is 1%. HolyFuror has calculated that in order for a Diablo Immortal player to receive a 5 out of 5-Star Gem by using this Legendary Crest method, they would buy an average of 1,553 packs, which costs $3,451.11. Given the luck required using this system and the price of fully gearing up in Diablo Immortal costing as much as a car, players that collect Legendary Crests may try to loot Legendary Gems through Elder Rifts instead.

Diablo Immortal's microtransactions have caused a backlash resulting in an incredibly low Metacritic score due to review bombs that continue to pour in. While Diablo Immortal utilizes confusing language that may result in players like HolyFuror spending more money than they would expect to for a 5 out of 5-Star Gem, several Reddit users have noted that this sort of wording is common to mobile games. Although many of the Diablo Immortal fans responding to HolyFuror's post suggest nobody is willing to pay this much for Legendary Gems, one Twitch streamer has spent $10,000 without getting one fully 5-Star Gem.

Diablo Immortal is out now for iOS and Android devices with a PC version in early access.
