BlizzCon 2019 was an eye-opening event that announced new projects like Overwatch 2, a new World of Warcraft expansion, and Diablo 4. With Diablo 4 expected to release on PC and consoles at launch, this will be the biggest Diablo launch ever.

With cross-platform on the horizon, players will be more connected than ever before. As a series that used console commands to add and message friends, it's come a long way since its heyday. Blizzard Entertainment has learned a lot since Diablo 3, but did they catch everything? This is our Diablo 4 wishlist of 10 things fans are crossing their fingers for.

10 Darker Themes

It's hard to tell from what limited gameplay we've seen in the trailers, but it looks like Diablo 4 will be darker. Darker themes could benefit the series, which took on more colorful aesthetics in Diablo 3.

With satanic and witchcraft elements, the game's appearance should appear dark. Most people will agree that a more mysterious appearance would be an improvement for the series. There should be beautiful and immersive environments with dynamic colors, yet darker as an enhancement.

9 More Character Customization

The Diablo series is part of the hack and slash role-playing genre... and a masterful one at that. Blizzard Entertainment would be well-advised to focus more on the game's character customization. Doing so will make the game more of a role-playing game, instead of an action game.

Many people will recall that in Diablo 3, players were limited to one appearance for each character with the possibility for unique gear. Changing facial structures and body types could be an improvement. Give us the character customization seen in games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The sky is the limit.

8 The Return Of Rune Words

It's hard to forget that the Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction expansion introduced Rune Words to the game. Using a combination of Runes, players could create the most potentially powerful items in the game. Rune Words like Enigma, Breath of the Dying, Chains of Honor, Beast, Doom, and Faith were the most desired items in Diablo 2.

Bring back Rune Words, and give obtaining loot more depth than Diablo 3. Merely finding the gear that drops on the ground is not enough. Diablo 4 could bring fresh air to the series with the reintroduction of Rune Words.

7 Bosses That Drop Valuable Loot

Players might remember the amount of legendary loot that would drop in Diablo 3. Legendaries and set items were not difficult to come by when playing Rifts. A few legendaries or set pieces would fall with each Rift run. There needs to be more balancing to ensure that legendary drops are a special but rare occurrence.

On another note, Diablo 4 could benefit from valuable drops from boss fights. In Diablo 3, the Rift Guardian served as the only boss worth fighting. Precious drops from bosses would encourage clashes with bosses like Diablo, The Butcher, and Lilith.

6 A Game That Doesn't Disconnect

Judging by the way Blizzard Entertainment handled World of Warcraft Classic's launch, it would seem as if they've improved at managing their servers. Few could have predicted the overload of servers that came with World of Warcraft Classic's launch.

It's expected that Diablo 4 will have an unstable launch. Blizzard Entertainment needs to work on stabilizing servers during the game's regular hours. Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 are games that frequently lose connectivity. If they could just fix their servers, they would be way ahead.

5 Drop Rates That Give The Game Replayability

If the drop rates for the most legendary items are low, this may, in theory, discourage players from starting over. The drop rates for the best gear should be high enough that players will want to replay the game over and over. Diablo 4 has a lot riding on its release.

There is a large margin for error, and fans have the highest expectations. As long as they have drop rates along the lines of Diablo 2 and less like Diablo 3 at its launch, they should be okay.

4 Item Sets From Previous Games (And New Ones)

Item sets like Immortal King, Tal Rasha's Elements, Pestilence Corpse Lancer, Trag'Oul's Blood Lancer, and Akkhan Condemn should return to Diablo 4. It's expected Diablo 4 will introduce new sets to the game, but it shouldn't contain overcrowding of set items where players are unlikely to obtain a complete set.

For their appearance and character bonuses, set items can be highly beneficial on the battlefield. In some cases, they are stronger than legendary items.

3 Fewer Difficulty Levels

One of the most unique aspects of Diablo 2 was the fact other players could help you progress through the game. In an act called "rushing," players would fast track other players through difficulties. Rushing should make a return in Diablo 4.

The abundance of difficulties in Diablo 3 ruins the flow of the game. With over ten Torment difficulties, players are disconnected from one another, ruining the social aspect of the game. Diablo 4 could learn a lot from Diablo 2 by having 3-5 difficulties at the max.

2 More Player Interaction

To further cement a point made in the previous entry, this one is about player interaction. Playing Diablo 3 for hours, players soon realize how pointless it is to interact with other players. Grinding through Rifts, players gain an abundance of drops and experience.

With numerous difficulty levels, players can quickly level without assistance from other players. Unlike other Blizzard products like World of Warcraft, player interaction is not necessary. Please, give us a reason to socialize once again!

1 Player Versus Player That Doesn't Disappoint

Former Game Director Jay Wilson left the game in shambles before handing it off to Josh Mosqueira. As a game that needed many fixes, PvP (player versus player) was less of a priority. For the most part, it was the PvE (player versus environment) aspects of Diablo 3 that were fixed

Diablo 4 is Blizzard Entertainment's new opportunity to give meaning to PvP. Give us a battleground to battle other players, track score, and give us fetching PvP gear. There is a world of possibilities, and without a doubt, PvP is something players are expecting in Diablo 4.
