Diablo 4 is easily one of the most anticipated titles on the (relative) horizon. The next in the mainline series has already built up massive expectations, partly due to its extended development time and partly to Diablo's place as the ultimate dungeon crawler to many fans. For the first time in the series' history though, there are multiple Diablo properties in the works. Three games are on the way including the mobile Diablo Immortal and the remake Diablo 2: Resurrected. Only one of the games has an established release date, and that says a lot about when fans should expect to see Diablo 4.

It's been more than four months since the last update on Diablo 4. Back in February, fans were able to attend the all-digital BlizzConline presentation. The weekend-long event featured a lot of fanfare like the popular DnD streaming show Critical Role playing a Diablo-themed one shot and some extensive dives into the upcoming games. Fans had hoped for news about an actual release date from Diablo 4, and while that was absent, there was a presentation on the Rogue class. Overall, though, what fans know about Diablo 2 can inform a little bit on Diablo 4 and its release date.

Fans Shouldn't Expect Much News About Diablo 4 Until After Diablo 2: Resurrected Launches

Diablo 2 Resurrected Sorceress and Druid Classes

Of the three Diablo games on the way, only Diablo 2: Resurrected has an official release date, with that being September 23 on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The game is an ambitious project on its own, as remaking such a beloved game comes with loads of fan expectations. Blizzard seems to be banking on the game's success after having dedicated so much of its BlizzConline Diablo segments to the remake. They may be also hoping the game works as a panacea for fans that are chomping at the bit for Diablo 4.

This is probably a safe strategy in the modern era of remakes and remasters. It's seemed like there's at least one remake or remaster released at least each quarter for nearly a decade. At the very least, fans are definitely excited with comparisons between the original Diablo 2 and Resurrected popping up very frequently online. Diablo 2 is a very expansive game, and could be just what fans need as they anxiously wait for new information about Diablo 4. With four out of its five starting classes announced and a larger dive into its new and more open world recently, fans are probably expecting Diablo 4 news to come sooner rather than later.

It's important to keep those expectations in check, though. With Diablo Immortal also slated for release this year, it's likely that Blizzard wants each property to have enough time to breathe. While the initial announcement of a mobile-only Diablo was divisive among fans, the game seems to be shaping up to be a full-fledged experience. It's likely that Blizzard will space the releases at least moderately. With so many properties on the way, it's most likely that fans won't get anymore news about Diablo 4 until well after the remake of Diablo 2 releases later this year.
