Since Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision-Blizzard, it seems the latter company has been a little forthcoming with information. Future details regarding Call of Duty, the announcement of a new survival game, and more have been shown in recent weeks/months. More recently, news on an Overwatch 2 PVP test and more was revealed, and for Overwatch 2, this is particularly noteworthy. It poses the question, in learning all of this, when will fans learn more about Diablo 4?

The main source of information for Diablo 4 news and updates has been the Blizzard quarterly updates. Looking at the past quarterly updates could help narrow down the next update and alleviate any worries that it is "late."

Diablo 4 Quarterly Update

Diablo 4 Rogue Reveal

First, "quarterly" is worth defining, and it's simply three-month periods. Fiscal year quarters are confusing, but in breaking down a simple year, the first quarter is January through March, the second is April through June, the third is July through September, and the fourth is October through December.

These quarterly updates began not too long after Diablo 4 was officially revealed, taking place in February, June, September, and December 2020. In 2021, these took place in June, October, and December. There wasn’t an early Q1 update in 2021 for a simple reason, though. Blizzcon took place in February 2022, and there, Diablo 4 revealed the Rogue class. Overall, it’s a pretty structured delivery method, as each month lines up with similar information except the small September and October change.

All of this is to say that it seems odd that a new Diablo 4 quarterly update has not released yet. For the past two years, there has been some form of Diablo 4 update in February. Of course, this year saw the big breaking announcement of Microsoft’s Activision-Blizzard acquisition, and that certainly shook things up—among other developments. The only big, non-quarterly news as of recent is Blizzard’s delay of Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 late last year, and that could also impact the new update.

Is The Diablo 4 Quarterly Update Delayed?

Still, given how reliable these updates have been and how forthcoming Activision-Blizzard has been with game updates lately, it stands to reason that a Diablo 4 quarterly update should still drop by the end of March. There’s plenty of time to do so, especially after the Overwatch 2 beta hype dies down. There’s no real indication that it’s going to be delayed or not happen this quarter, but it’s understandable if fans worry about this.

However, until March does come to an end, fans should simply standby for more Diablo 4 information. If it somehow goes past March, then hopefully it would follow soon, but at that point, it would be officially off track with its typical communication pattern.

Diablo 4 is in development.
