For many longtime fans, Diablo 4 feels like a return to form as it seemingly takes plenty of inspiration from predecessors like Diablo 2. The current open beta reveals only a small component of the larger experience, as it keeps players locked into Act 1, instituting a hard level cap of 25, and even increasing the spawn rates of Diablo 4's legendary items above what the launch version will be. Still, thanks to impressive cinematics as well as the classic hack and slash style gameplay, players should have a good understanding of what Diablo 4's launch experience will play like.

In addition to all of the loot, enemy smashing, and dungeon exploring, Diablo 4 also features a number of main and side quests to experience. Many have players going from one location to another in order to either find some item or kill a named enemy. However, inside of the limited beta test, there are a couple of quests which put a spin on those expectations by having the player do a little puzzle solving or in some cases, performing an action in front of an NPC character.

Diablo 4 also leans much harder into social aspects, giving fans more options for interacting with other players during co-op sessions with friends. One example of this is with an emote wheel, which gives players new ways to express themselves or communicate with others. In fact, the emote wheel becomes a requirement in an early quest, so here's everything players need to know.

How to Use the Emote Wheel

To help players communicate, Diablo 4 has a fully integrated emote wheel, mirroring what many online games feature these days like Overwatch 2, Destiny 2, and countless others. PC players can access it by pressing E on their keyboard, while console or controller users can select Up on the D-Pad. By default, the emote wheel holds 8 at a time, ranging from actions like waving, follow, and thanks, to more emotive options like saying sorry or taunting. Select the option from the wheel to have the player character act out the emote while also saying a corresponding voice line.

How to Complete the Raising Spirits Quest with Cheer

Now that players know how to use the emote wheel in Diablo 4, it's time to put that knowledge to good use as it will be required in a couple of missions. The first is the Secret of the Springs quest, which adds a little puzzle solving and emote using to the traditional go here and kill quest formula. However, that one is fairly straight forward as it requires use of the "Wait" emote, which is found on the Emote Wheel easily enough.

However, after players arrive at the town of Kyovashad, they'll eventually take on the Raising Spirits quest. After speaking to an NPC guard named Boza, the player will need to head to the training barracks in town to cheer up the soldiers stationed there. In order to do that, players will need to use the Cheer emote, though that isn't one on the wheel by default.

At this point, players will need to open their Emote Wheel and then customize it to find and then add the Cheer emote to the wheel. Diablo 4 has numerous emote options and the wheel can only hold so many, which means players can choose and add the ones they want. Once "Cheer" has been assigned and saved, follow the minimap to the blue icon and use "Cheer" on the group of soldiers standing there to complete that part of the quest. Head back to Boza to claim XP and Money for a job well done.

Diablo 4 launches on June 6, 2023, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
