Blizzard confirms that Diablo 4 is meeting performance targets on Xbox platforms, assuaging worries that the upcoming game might suffer the same frustrations as games including Redfall and Gotham Knights. Diablo 4 will be launching on June 6 across multiple generations of consoles, as well as PC. It seems that Blizzard has done its due diligence to ensure Diablo 4 scales appropriately between platforms, and that Xbox Series X/S console owners will be very happy with the results.

The shift to the current generation of consoles, including both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, has not been a smooth transition. Continued support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is just part of the problem, though. The other is that the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S are both wrestling with how to support both 4K resolution and the push for stable 60fps output. Xbox has struggled with this more than PlayStation, in part due to the hardware differences between the X and S console models.

Fans of the Diablo franchise will be excited to hear that Blizzard has done the work necessary to get Diablo 4 running as it would like on both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson confirmed on Major Nelson's latest Xbox podcast that Diablo 4 is hitting its targets on Xbox platforms. That means performance will meet all of Blizzard's standards at launch, with no delayed performance modes or updates necessary.

As for what Diablo 4's launch day targets are, Xbox users should be very happy. The Xbox Series S will run Diablo 4 at 1080p resolution and 60fps. The Xbox Series X will run Diablo 4 at 4K resolution, also with 60fps. Blizzard is delivering the levels of performance that Xbox users on either platform would expect.

After the recent announcement that Xbox-console-exclusive Redfall would launch only supporting 30FPS with a 60FPS mode arriving post-launch, Xbox fans have understandably felt frustrated. Blizzard confirming it will have no such limitations on Xbox will be a major relief. Diablo 4 is one of the biggest launches on Xbox this year, after all. Here's hoping it lives up to players' expectations.

Diablo 4 releases June 6 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
