Diablo 3 has been out for six years, but that hasn't stopped Blizzard from keeping things fresh with DLC packs, updates, and events. However, a bevy of recent job listings suggests the developer may be shifting its focus to the future, as the listings confirm Blizzard is hiring for several positions to work on a brand new installment in the venerable Diablo franchise.

While it's easy to assume the call for new talent is in relation to the rumored Diablo 3 switch installment, the job listings instead confirm that an original Diablo game is currently in the works, calling for qualified Artists, Animators, and Engineers to assist in the development of a "new, unannounced Diablo project."

Further, the listing for Dungeon Artists seeks candidates with achievements in level design, modeling, texturing, and other aspects of world-building that suggest a ground-up development model, and not simply a remastering of a current title.

The language in the Dungeon Artist listing also suggests the development team is taking a familiar approach to world-building and gameplay mechanics, emphasizing the need for a Dungeon Artist that "works well in an environment of peers who are passionate about working on the dark gothic world of Diablo, making great games, killing millions of monsters and getting loot!"

Considering Blizzard is hiring for such essential roles in the creative team of an unannounced Diablo project, it's almost guaranteed that the sequel to 2012's Diablo 3 is officially in production. That being said, Blizzard is sure to take its time with any new installment to one of its staple franchises, and this news certainly doesn't mean that Diablo 4 will release any time soon.

For the time being, Diablo 3 continues to see support from a core player base, thanks to multi-platform availability and consistent content updates. In the interest of mainstream availability, it's looking more and more likely that fans can expect a Switch port in the near future. Following a purported leak and then a cryptic tweet from Blizzard, a listing for Diablo 3 on Nintendo Switch appeared on UK online retailer "Coolshop."

Diablo 3 is available for PS4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.
