In an attempt to bring more eyes to their Facebook page, Blizzard has announced that it will release new information for Diablo III when they reach 1 million "Likes" on the popular social website. Blizzard realized that they're millions of fans out there who aren't following them on Facebook, and after the Warcraft Facebook page recently hit a million, they felt it was time to rally the troops.
The number of people who follow Diablo on Facebook is currently hovering around half a million. Blizzard states that it will release new artwork and screenshots for highly anticipated sequel for every 25 thousand people who 'Likes' their page, between now and 1 million.
Giving incentives in exchange for followers on popular social media websites is nothing new. In fact, yesterday we told you of how Ubisoft is planning on increasing their Facebook ranks by offering a new multiplayer map for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
These incentives are probably DLC that the publishers were planning to offer as paid content, but the added revenue of thousands of followers could be more beneficial in the long run. Following a franchise on Facebook is a small price to pay to get free content for a game. The problem is convincing several hundred thousand others to do the same.
One question remains, what will Blizzard offer at 1 million 'Likes'? It was never announced on their page what will happen when they reach a million, and if they really wanted to pull in millions of eyes fast they could offer something awesome, like a Diablo 3 release date.
Diablo III is expected to launch this fall, regardless of how many 'Likes' it has.
How do you feel about publishers giving content in exchange for followers? Other than artwork what would you like Blizzard to unveil?
