Diablo III Box Cover Art 'Leaked'

Blizzard Says Diablo 3 Consoles Very Likely

Blizzard doesn't need to set release dates for their games. Loyal gamers will wait a decade (see: StarCraft II) and jump in on the fun the day a Blizzard game releases and they'll play it forever (see: World of Warcraft). But what about their third franchise? What's up with Diablo III?

We still don't have a release date, although Blizzard may announce one at this year's BlizzCon in October, but we do have this "leaked" image of Diablo III's box cover art.

Can you believe that Diablo II released on June 29, 2000. That's nearly eleven years ago. Franchises that are both critically and financially successful shouldn't take that long to get further installments. Then again, that's their magic formula and part of what makes Blizzard and their games special. We also see it with Valve (see: Half-Life 2: Episode 3) and it's why Diablo III is on our list of most anticipated games of 2011.

Even though the Diablo III trailers from seemingly ages ago depicted what looked like polished gameplay, Blizzard happily will take their time and let the development teams do what they need to, to balance and tweak the gameaplay mechanics and test things out for fun. That's a luxury provided by WoW's ungodly revenue stream.

While some may be impatient, I am never upset to see a game pushed back for developers to work on it as long as they need to. There are so many other games to play anyway, so what's the hurry? We certainly don't need more rushed games.

While we await official updates about Diablo III, we do have the game's box art, apparently "leaked" but a Polish retail site. Take a look [Click to enlarge]:

Diablo 3 Cover Art

Oh my, it's so awesome! Nope, it's fake. Ever heard of Sargeras or the Burning Legion? Well, here's an image of him. Look similar?

Diablo 3 Fake Cover - Sargeras

Pretty good photoshop skills. I could easily have seen that as a legitimate Blizzard game cover.

Diablo III doesn't have an official release date, but it's slated to come out on PC and Mac with a possible surprise release on the PS3/Xbox 360 as well.
