The Token Of Absolution in Diablo 2: Resurrection is a great way to reset a character's attributes and skills, but it shouldn't be relied upon to fix small character inconveniences. The process to get one involves a lot of farming and luck. However, if players have really messed up a build, and don't want to start from scratch, then respecing is a viable option.

The Token Of Absolution was thankfully imported to Diablo 2: Resurrected after the original game did not debut with any ability to reset statistics. Those who find themselves needing a do-over will have to go through a bit of a process, but it will be worth it in the end.

Updated on December 18th, 2021 by Hodey Johns: Getting the Token Of Absolution is something that every player should necessarily do. It's important to hit certain levels to maximize block chance and wear important gear. Once those pieces are set in place, the required strength and dexterity will change. That means a need to change attributes a minimum of one time (unless players somehow knew exactly what these numbers would be). Therefore, this guide is getting lots of hits. An update was necessary for this guide to make the information a bit easier to find by moving the main method of making the Token of Absolution closer to the front.

Farming Up The Essence

Unfortunately, players are going to immediately be forced to take on the game's toughest bosses if they need to redo their stats. There are four essences required and each one drops off of the five bosses (two bosses drop the same essence). The odds are as follows based on community experience:

After farming up four essences, head over to the Horadric Cube. There are many recipes that will be useful to most builds and this one is certainly on that list.

After that, simply use the token and congratulations! That's one of the roughest and rarest items in the game, so save it for when the player's items are totally set in stone and won't be exchanged for better items. Or, if that's already been done, save it to make some cash.

An Alternative Means Of Getting The Token

There is another way to get the Token Of Absolution that is much easier than farming it up, but it could be more expensive. Players can trade for the Token Of Absolution and acquire it from somebody else who has made it. This, of course, will likely be extremely expensive so prepare to part with a pricey rune or an incredible class weapon.

Also, if players need to reset, Akara in the Rogue Encampment offers one skill and statistic reset per difficulty level. This means players can reset their stats up to three times, but the option does go away after using it on Hell difficulty.

Diablo 2: Resurrected was released on September 23rd, 2021, and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
