Diablo 2: Resurrected is a re-release of one of the most legendary games of all time. The first game was a hit, but it was the sequel that improved and streamlined so much. It became the gold standard for action RPGs and helped paved the way for the looter genre all the way back in 2000. Diablo 2: Resurrected is only a remaster and not a lot has changed.

Gold is now automatically picked up. The shared stash menus have been expanded, but the normal inventory is still a bit problematic. The graphics are the most striking thing in this update. Total overhaul or not, people are still loving it. It's a Blizzard classic many have probably already played hundreds of times over which is why they can import their characters. For the newbies out there, here are a few tips.

8 You Need The Internet Initially

Diablo 2: Resurrected is digital-only as of right now. That is one barrier to cross for hungry players without good Internet service. Maybe some gamers have friends they can visit to download the games. That seems pretty common in certain areas.

If one does that, make sure to create a Battlenet account beforehand and to also log into the game at least once before leaving. The Internet is not required to play the game all of the time but it is required for the initial setup even gamers don’t plan to use multiplayer.

7 Multiplayer Options

One of the best reasons to pick this game up is to play it with friends online. And that is the only way to play co-op as of right now. Diablo 3 had local co-op options for consoles but Diablo 2: Resurrected does not.

Gamers hoping to play this at home with friends or loved ones because of their Diablo 3 experience are in for a rude surprise. Hopefully, this mode can get patched in later but Blizzard hasn’t made plans definitively yet. For those playing single-player only, don’t worry. They can hire mercenaries to help out in battle.

6 Don’t Be Too Hasty With Stat Or Skill Points

Leveling up is one of the greatest feelings in an RPG. When players level up in Diablo 2: Resurrected they can put points into stats as well as update skills or buy new ones. Don’t be too hasty on spending either set of points all at once.

The beginning of the game is pretty easy so skills or massive stat bumps aren’t required. The reason why gamers should hold off is that some equipment has stat requirements. Players never know when they may need a stat bump to equip a killer piece of gear.

5 You Can Reset Everything At Home Base

Contradictory to that, players can go wild if they want to. That’s because both sets of stats can be erased and then reset at the player’s leisure in town. This is handier for skill resets. For example, one pathway an Assassin class can take is to become a shadowy ninja. Maybe that set doesn’t gel well with the player.

They could also test out trap settings. Every class has branching pathways like this. The reason why it is still advised to be cautious about spending points is due to time waste. Gamers could reset their stuff all of the time if they are want but after the third or fourth reset, the process can become monotonous. The overall piece of advice is to play things moderately and to think.

4 Upgrade Tips

There are too many classes to go through in order to give proper tips to each. Here are a few general rules of thumb to follow. If a class has a character perk that allows them to increase speed, take it. The Assassin is one example of this that buffs the character’s stats, like speed, for a set amount of time.

Any sort of booster ability or spell-like this is a good one to invest points into. Skills and spells that hit a wide area of enemies, especially within the player’s inner circle, are also good.

3 Item Tips

In the shop, some players may not know that they can hold down the button to buy an item instead of clicking the accept command. This will speed up time especially when trying to bulk up on identification scrolls and teleportation scrolls.

Eventually, players will meet Deckard Cain who can identify items for free so don’t buy too many of those scrolls at the start. Portal scrolls are the most important item. It’s also a good idea not to buy equipment or potions unless something really extraordinary catches the eye. The best stuff is found mostly in dungeons.

2 The Map Choices

There are three options for the map in the game. Players can move it to the right top corner, the left top corner, or have it blown up in the middle. While exploring, the middle option is ideal although it is hard to see enemies. Thankfully the map is clear enough so that this shouldn’t be a problem for most.

Another helpful map tip is to keep an eye out for the boost shrines while walking around. They will be marked on the map even if players don’t see them at first. The experience and speed booster shines are a godsend so always remember those locations and symbols.

1 Saving, Quitting, And Death

If players choose to save and quit the game, they will restart back in town. Everything will be saved thankfully but if players were exploring a dungeon and then decided to call it quits, they should know what that really means. It might be best to finish things up before starting them otherwise the process will have to get repeated.

Death is also something worth bringing up. Players will lose all of their gear and a fraction of their gold. The gold cannot totally be recovered but all of the gear can. Diablo 2 is one of the oldest games that included this corpse run feature akin to modern roguelikes.

Diablo 2: Resurrected was released on September 23, 2021, and is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
