Diablo 2: Resurrected has been out for a few days, and many are diving into Blizzard’s classic game made fresh. Without a doubt, remaking a classic and beloved experience that was first released 20+ years ago is no easy feat, yet there are a lot of things about it that can be appreciated. As we wrote in our Diablo 2: Resurrected review, “[It] certainly feels like a game that is designed with veteran and nostalgic players in mind and it truly nails the experience in that sense.”
However, it seems that many are not happy with the game. As the Metacritic user scores have piled in over the past couple of days, the user review score for Diablo 2: Resurrected has gone down considerably, with more negative reviews being left than positive ones.
Review bombing is a hard term to nail down. Usually, it means that there’s a concentrated effort to bring down a review score, while sometimes said reasoning is largely unrelated to the game. Life is Strange: True Colors’ review bombing is a good example of this, as it was concentrated and largely unrelated due to a certain flag being the game. With Diablo 2: Resurrected, the review bombing is primarily focused on the game and is not the most concentrated review bombing ever seen, but the negative reviews are quickly overwhelming the good with many expressing the same concerns and using similar terminology.

Overall, a lot of the negative reviews take issue with various bugs, technical concerns, and server issues that are plaguing Diablo 2: Resurrected’s launch. Some are calling it unplayable, while others say that it’s a bad console experience, particularly among the Switch reviews. One big concern among many reviews is how players are getting locked out of their Diablo 2: Resurrected characters. Other issues are the lack of mod support, some issues with the new graphics, changes like those made to the Diablo 2: Resurrected Amazon class, and censored content. All of this has led to many referring to it as “Diablo 2 Refunded,” which appears to be a growing name among negative comments.
Perhaps the worst among several of these comments is the comparison of Diablo 2: Resurrected to Warcraft 3: Reforged, with many complaining that both of these remasters are of the same essential, lackluster quality. Ultimately, it remains to be seen how the game stands when the “review period” from users, how Blizzard responds to these criticisms, and how this impacts the game long-term.
