Like what seems to happen every year, many of Blizzard's big announcements for BlizzCon 2021 were leaked online prior to the show. This included a Diablo 2 remake, which has now been officially announced. As revealed during BlizzCon 2021, Blizzard is bringing back the critically-acclaimed action RPG in the form of Diablo 2: Resurrected, which will be available for PC and consoles later this year.

Blizzard didn't specify which consoles in the Diablo 2: Resurrected announcement trailer, but the official website lists PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X. It's possible that the game is skipping Xbox One, though that would be an odd choice since it's coming to PS4 and Switch. More details should come soon, but in the meantime, the Diablo 2: Resurrected site revealed some more interesting details about the game.

Diablo 2: Resurrected will feature completely remastered graphics, giving the classic game a major facelift that helps it better live up to modern standards. It supports 4K resolution (on PC, at least) as well as cross-progression and other new Battle.net features. Essentially, it should be the same Diablo 2 experience that fans remember from 2000, but with some quality of life improvements and improved visuals. Players will have the option to use the old-school visuals as well, though.

Diablo 2: Resurrected was one of the biggest Blizzcon 2021 announcements, but it wasn't the only Diablo-related announcement at the show. Blizzard also confirmed previous rumors that Diablo 4 is adding a Rogue class. Returning from the original Diablo game, the new take on the Rogue class will be just as customizable as the other Diablo 4 classes. Unfortunately, there's no Diablo 4 release date in sight, so it's unclear when fans will actually get to try the Rogue out for themselves.

Blizzard also stopped short of announcing a Diablo Immortal release date, which is odd as the game is in the public testing phase. It did show some new Diablo Immortal gameplay footage, but it seems as though fans of the franchise will have to wait a little longer before they will find out when they can try Diablo Immortal on their phone.

While Diablo Immortal was once a hugely controversial game, the reveal of Diablo 2: Resurrected and the upcoming Diablo 4 should make fans more forgiving. After all, Diablo 2: Resurrected will be giving diehard Diablo fans to revisit one of the most popular games in the series, whereas Diablo 4 is taking the series into the future with a proper main series entry. Diablo Immortal is now just icing on the cake instead of the sole thing Diablo fans have to look forward to.

Diablo 2: Resurrected launches later this year for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
