Diablo 2: Resurrected had a very strong launch, but it's that exact success that has led the remade ARPG to its current troubles. For over a week, Diablo 2: Resurrected has wrestled with serious server issues stemming from a surge of players and antiquated online legacy code from the original game. The Diablo 2: Resurrected development team is hard at work on improvements, but it will take some time to fully solve. In the meantime, Diablo 2: Resurrected players are loudly sharing their displeasure.

It doesn't take much for a community to turn to negativity, even if it's just a minority of players struggling with issues. That's exactly what's happened with the Diablo community on Reddit, as frustrated players have flocked to the subreddit to commiserate about queue times and other issues. The vast majority of posts currently on the front page of the subreddit are negative, with many going so far as saying that they're going to ask for a refund.

One highly upvoted post is calling attention to the fact that Blizzard didn't implement the same queue system on consoles as it did on PC. As a result, players have no method of knowing if servers are currently under duress. They simply have to try and log on and hope Diablo 2: Resurrected's servers aren't full. Another post shows that the issue isn't just with logging in, but with the servers themselves. Their level 85 hardcore Sorcerer died while they were loading into a Waypoint because the servers are making loading times intolerable.

The biggest focus of many of the posts is Diablo 2: Resurrected's new queue system. One player described their frustration at trying to log on while they had an hour to spare, only to spend 15 minutes watching a queue number never decrease and logging off. Another player asks Blizzard to allow players to play offline while still waiting in queue, so they can swap over when the server has room. Others say it's not worth waiting through a queue anyway, because Diablo 2: Resurrected will crash and force players to re-queue.

This is, unfortunately, the state that Diablo 2: Resurrected will be in for the foreseeable future. The development team is hard at work on improvements, but it's dealing with complex problems and code that's over 20 years old. It could take months to rebuild, and it may not even be possible to rebuild parts of it.

While it may not make much of a difference to Diablo 2: Resurrected players dealing with ongoing server issues, the development team's sincerity is clear based on ongoing communication about the game's problems. The Diablo 2: Resurrected development team says it has people "working incredibly hard to manage incidents in real-time," and that it will keep working "until the game experience feels good to us not only as developers, but as players and members of the community ourselves." Of course, nothing's stopping players from refunding now and coming back once Diablo 2: Resurrected is in a better place.

Diablo 2: Resurrected is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
