Characters Eligible For Transfer

Diablo 2 Resurrected Player Character Options

To play a character from Diablo 2 in Diablo 2: Resurrected, the character needs to meet only two requirements:

  • Be an offline character
  • Be imported to a PC version of Diablo 2: Resurrected

Unfortunately, there is no way for online players to make their character become offline. The advantage of having an online character, even if the myriad of glitches and exploits haven't been abused, was too great for the developers to allow such a character to port over. Imagine a fully-equipped Hammerdin crushing it on day one of Diablo 2: Resurrected after using online techniques for the last two decades.

This means any old online characters are not transferable to the newly remastered version. Additionally, even though Diablo 2: Resurrected has cross progression between consoles and PC, an old save cannot be imported on PC and then played on a console.

How To Import Old Characters Into Diablo 2: Resurrected

There is a bit of a hiccup with the process for players that go straight into this porting process. If a character does not exist, the port doesn't appear to work quite right.

If players have a character that meets these requirements, they can follow these steps to import their old characters:

  • Go to This PC > Local Disk (C:) > Users > (The players' username) > Saved Games
  • Find the game file ending with .d2s and copy it
  • Open the Diablo 2: Resurrected folder
  • Paste the file

As long as the file in question belonged to an offline character, it will now be playable in the remastered version. This includes their awesome gear and incredible runes.

Keeping The Retro Look

Of course, if players have been gaming with the old-school Diablo 2 for the last twenty-plus years, it's likely that graphics aren't too important. In fact, maybe the PC can't handle the modern physics and graphics or the modern motion blue makes it too difficult to see important projectiles in combat.

To really make the character feel at home, players can even switch to Legacy Mode in Diablo 2: Resurrected to revert the graphics back to how they used to be. The look is still polished, but it's back to the heartwarming look of the classic game.

Diablo 2: Resurrected was released on September 23rd, 2021, and is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
