The release of Diablo 2: Resurrected has been a highly-anticipated launch for both fans of the classic dungeon crawler series and Blizzard alike. Blizzard has heavily promoted the upcoming Diablo remaster since its announcement earlier this year and fans finally got their chance to return to Sanctuary with the game's release yesterday. However, less than 48 hours after the game's launch, fans are reporting issues with creating lobbies and playing online with some even reporting their characters being temporarily deleted.
Diablo 2: Resurrected was announced by Blizzard earlier this year with Vicarious Visions heading development of the 2000 dungeon crawler's remaster. The remaster brings updated graphics and audio to the classic title and cross-progression for players to continue their adventures across multiple different platforms. However, the game's multiplayer has been a point of discussion following its release for less positive reasons.
Following a smooth launch for the highly anticipated Diablo 2 remaster, players have reported several issues with connectivity to the game's online lobbies. Initial reports saw players unable to connect to online lobbies and some unfortunate players even saw their characters deleted. The deleted characters have since been restored, but many of Diablo 2: Resurrected's playerbase still find themselves unable to join online lobbies.
Following these reports of deleted characters and inaccessible lobbies, Blizzard has announced multiple unscheduled maintenance periods following the game's release in an attempt to rectify the issues. Blizzard already closed the servers for two separate maintenance periods on the game's launch day and the official Customer Service Twitter has continued to report on player issues following the closures. The issues affecting Diablo 2: Resurrected do seem to be limited to the game's online features as a tweet from Diablo Executive Producer Rod Fergusson suggests playing the offline version while the company is "digging into online issues."
Fans of the Diablo franchise have been waiting a long time to finally see a return to the world of Sanctuary. The last title released in the Diablo franchise was 2012's Diablo 3 with expansions for the title coming in 2014 and 2017. Blizzard has previously announced two upcoming Diablo games in mobile title Diablo Immortal currently scheduled for early next year and Diablo 4 with an unannounced release date. While the wait for the next main series entry in the Diablo franchise only seems to get longer, Diablo 2: Resurrected should whet the appetite of fans looking to do battle with Diablo and his demons for now.
