Dexter: New Blood is set to bring back one of the most talked-about shows in recent memory. The original eight-season run of Showtime's Dexter ended way back in 2013. While the series finale left many fans disappointed in how the beloved serial killer's story ended, it still remains one of the greatest television shows to date.

The revival season, with its 10-episode run, is set ten years after the show's events and has a lot to answer for, not least of which is why it exists in the first place. What has happened in Dexter's life that warrants a new chapter of his story? And will a mini-series be sufficient to give a satisfying conclusion to the character's arc? How it will attempt to tie up the loose ends left after the final season of the original show? Because, as fans know, are there a lot of unanswered questions to be addressed.

8 How Did Dexter Survive The Storm?

The series finale of the show closes with Dexter riding into the eye of a raging storm, holding the lifeless body of his sister Debra in his hands. Devastated at this terrible loss, he seemingly decides to take his own life by handing himself over to the storm.

However, the last shot of the episode (and the entire show) surprises the viewers by showing a bearded and very-much-alive Dexter living as a lumberjack somewhere in Oregon. The show ends with no explanation as to how he survived or why. Hopefully, Dexter: New Blood sheds some light on what exactly happened in that storm.

7 Did He Go On Killing?

Fans loved Dexter's serial killing exploits. No matter how disturbing his acts got, viewers were safe in the knowledge that it was all going according to Harry's code. After all, Dexter was only killing "bad guys" who deserved it.

After retiring as a lumberjack, though, did he give up on his murderous ways or did he simply find a way to keep channeling his inner demon under a new identity? The revival needs to delve a bit into what Dexter was up to during the ten-year hiatus.

6 Did Anyone Discover Dexter's True Nature?

Over the course of eight long seasons, Dexter had quite a few close calls with the law. He managed to escape justice every single time, sometimes with terrible consequences for important characters (i.e., LaGuerta). But he had his fair share of suspicion from multiple characters like Quinn and Masuka.

It's quite possible that after he left everything behind in Miami, someone either discovered the countless bodies he stashed away or managed to connect him to one or more of the mysterious murders during his tenure at Miami PD. The revival should address whether or not this actually happened.

5 What Became Of Hannah & Harrison?

With Debra's death in the final moments of the show, Dexter decided to live a life of seclusion. He chose not to reunite with his son Harrison and his lover Hannah, who were presumably hiding somewhere together.

It would be interesting to find out if Dexter tried to connect with them during these ten years or if he's planning to join them and give a shot at a happy ending with a family of his own.

4 Will Aster & Cody Return?

While Rita, Dexter's wife, was brutally murdered by the Trinity Killer, Dexter remained in contact with her children Aster and Cody. However, aside from a brief appearance in season 7, the kids weren't featured much in the show. They are presumably still living with their grandparents in Orlando.

If Dexter attempts to reconnect with Harrison and Hannah, will he simply forget about Rita's son and daughter? Or are fans going to get one last look at Dexter's grown-up stepchildren?

3 What Happened To Dexter's Colleagues?

The show wouldn't have been the same without the likes of Angel Batista, Vince Masuka, and Joey Quinn. Over the course of its eight-season run, the show regularly pitted Dexter against one or the other of the various Miami PD regulars.

With the titular character returning to action, will fans get to see some of Dexter's former colleagues and friends as well? What if one of them figures out Dexter's bloody exploits and decides to bring him to justice? It will be interesting to see who opposes the title character in the reboot.

2 Is The Dark Passenger Truly Gone?

Dexter frequently attributed his killer instinct manifesting from the so-called "Dark Passenger" residing inside him. It was his way of defining the personality trait that drove him to take lives, in order to keep himself from unraveling.

After Hannah came into his life, Dexter believed he had finally gotten rid of the Dark Passenger. But after a prolonged distance from both Hannah and Harrison, there's no telling whether the evil spirit could resurface or not. It's very much possible that it did and could be the catalyst for many of the new season's events.

1 What Does Dexter Deserve — Justice or Redemption?

The original show regularly danced around the moral implications of Dexter's actions. Without taking a firm stand, it left fans to grapple with the fundamental question: Does Dexter deserve a happy ending? After all that he's done, no matter how he justifies it, does he really deserve happiness with Hannah and Harrison?

Fans would probably want to see him get a chance at redemption, but it's debatable as to whether that's really the best choice from a storytelling standpoint. Only time, and the new season, will tell.
