It seems as though the upcoming Dexter limited sequel series still has plenty of surprises up its sleeves. Granted, that's pretty much a given considering the new season hasn't even come out yet. But after the reveal of big news like how John Lithgow will return as the Trinity Killer (in a rather impressive subversion of the fact that he died in the original series), one might expect that any more big twists would be saved for the show itself.

But that's just not how they roll here in good-guy serial killer land, and now the new series titled Dexter: New Blood has unveiled one more big secret before its upcoming premiere. At some point during the story, Dexter will reunite with his son Harrison, who is now fully grown and may or may not be fully aware of what dear old dad really does in his spare time. Played by The Good Lord Bird star Jack Alcott, Harrison is all geared up for his return in a teaser image recently posted by Showtime. But funnily enough, his return was hidden in plain sight.

Alcott was confirmed to join the cast way back in January. During the same casting announcement that revealed the presence of The Mandalorian's Julia Jones, the powers that be also teased Alcott's role as the mysterious character "Randall," who would apparently have a meaningful encounter with Dexter during the show. Well, it's hard to think of something more meaningful than finding out the two are actually related.

Harrison was last seen as a young boy going off into hiding after Dexter faked his own death. In the care of Hannah McKay, another troubled serial killer, and Dexter's last romantic interest, it's assumed that the two changed their identities in order to disappear following the events of the Dexter series finale. (Look, who expected an actual literal murderer to have the most level-headed decision-making skills?) The name Randall may be significant, as it was the last name of Hannah's own serial killer ex Wayne Randall.

So this might be a subtle indication that Hannah herself, played by Yvonne Strahovski, may show up in Dexter: New Blood as well. She was last seen going into hiding with Harrison after all, and considering how the new season appears to be all about Dexter confronting his past, it wouldn't be too shocking to see her again. If nothing else, she might appear as more of a figment like Jennifer Carpenter as Deb Morgan.

There's still plenty of time to speculate, but knowing that Harrison will return is sure to get those mind wheels spinning. How did he find his way to the same place where Dexter is hiding out? Did Dexter actually find him? All those questions and more will hopefully be answered when Dexter: New Blood finally debuts.

Dexter: New Blood will premiere on November 7th, 2021 on Showtime.
