After the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic caused the cancellation of major conventions, several developers began planning out online alternatives. With E3 out of the picture, both major and independent developers and publishers announced the compilation of their individual showcases in IGN's Summer of Gaming. Now, one of IGN's partners, Devolver Digital has announced the broadcast date for its event, and is teasing what viewers can expect on Twitter.

According to the announcement, the Devolver Direct is coming to Twitch and Steam on July 11, 2020, at 12 PM, Pacific Standard Time. In the tweet, the indie game publisher teased "gameplay reveals, release date announcements and new game reveals" and cheekily invited fans to "discuss [their] unrealistic expectations" on its Discord server.

Over the years, Devolver Digital has featured its homicidal "Chief Synergy Officer," Nina Struthers in its press conferences in a long-running and ridiculous storyline. 2019's conference, which parodied Nintendo Directs, ended on a cliffhanger with Struthers trapped in her own mind. According to a PR statement, the 2020 Devolver Direct will be "nearly all gameplay because that’s what the youths of today demand," but teased the narrative's return by inviting viewers to catch up with the archived conferences on YouTube.

Devolver's statement also specifically promised at least one or two unannounced games alongside other "surprises" and game demos for titles like Carrion and Disc Room. Whether fans are excited for new releases or to see what horrors Struthers will face this year, the Devolver Direct should intrigue members of the gaming community.
