With the exciting news that a new Devil May Cry animated show will be produced in 2022, fans of the popular hack and slash game are guessing who will be making an appearance in the new show. Devil May Cry had a short-lived anime once upon a time, but it never took off the way other video game anime series have. That could all change with the release of this new show, starring the lovably crazy half-demon, Dante, and his crew of demon hunters.

Details on the show are still sparse, but it sounds like fans can expect to see a lot of familiar faces. Given that the game series is iconic for its huge boss fights against hulking demons, folks are curious whether or not some of the coolest bosses from the video games will make cameos in the newly announced television series.

8 Phantom

The iconic first boss from the very first Devil May Cry game would be an awesome addition to the character roster on Netflix's show. A snarky giant fire spider might not be the most convenient side character, but as a one-off villain, he would certainly fit the bill.

Dante fights Phantom multiple times in the game series, and although he isn’t that tough compared to some of the other bosses, he is still a memorable foe.

7 Agni And Rudra

The bumbling swords from Devil May Cry 3 could hopefully add some comic relief to the new show as either bosses or handy items for Dante to wield. Once a pair of battle-hardened demons that Dante fought in the tower, after being defeated by the Demon Hunter, Agni and Rudra became weapons in his arsenal with witty banter.

Whether they appear as weapons or in their demon forms, Agni and Rudra would make great side characters.

6 Mundus

The main villain of the first game is one tough cookie, but could he make an appearance in the animated show? Mundus is essentially the Prince of Darkness himself, the ruler of the demon world and thus one of Dante’s arch enemies.

Dante may have bested him in the events of the first game, but that’s not to say that Mundus couldn’t make an appearance anyway. The primary antagonist of the television series has yet to be revealed by the writers, but die-hard fans would surely appreciate seeing a familiar face involved.

5 Beowulf

Certainly one of the most intimidating bosses in the series, Beowulf is a frightening demon more than capable of giving Dante trouble, and his terrifying presence could make for some interesting fight sequences in the show.

Dante is no stranger to tough demons, but Beowulf is seriously strong. The Devil May Cry 3 boss could make for a great henchman for whoever the primary antagonist of the show proves to be. Beowulf is an especially violent enemy, one that could push Dante to the limit. In the game, Vergil ends up taking down Beowulf permanently, turning his soul into a Devil Arm.

4 Nevan

DMC 3 nevan boss battle

Another classic boss from the third game, Nevan is a seductress demon who lures souls into the underworld. She is best remembered as the lightning-wielding demon who gives Dante the fight of a lifetime.

Although she turns into a guitar-like weapon once defeated, Nevan would certainly make for an interesting antagonist in the new series. Even if she doesn’t, hopefully, the wicked guitar will make an appearance in some form or another.

3 Arius

Despite only appearing in the ill-fated Devil May Cry 2, Arius is still one of the coolest villains in the series. A blend of cruel business CEO and demonic overlord, Arius is probably the most stylistic antagonist in the series, despite being a villain in one of the least liked games in Capcom's franchise.

Arius could easily make a comeback in the television show as some kind of foe, but whether he would be a central character in the story remains to be seen.

2 Doppelganger

Dante’s double in the third game is a great concept for a character. While Vergil, his brother, will always be the perfect counterpart to Dante’s buffoonish heroism, the Doppelganger boss is a literal copy of Dante himself.

There are a lot of open-ended possibilities to having Dante’s shadow in the television series, but the writers would certainly need to flesh out the character more from just their appearance in the third game. Still, it would be a fun wink and nod to fans of the games.

1 Arkham/Jester

devil may cry arkham

Not only one of the creepiest demons in the Devil May Cry series, but of any video game franchise, Arkham is frightening in every sense of the word. Considering the timeline of the television series has yet to be revealed, Arkham and his otherworldly Jester alter-ego could potentially make an appearance in the show.

Fans will remember this tall and dark fellow as the primary antagonist of the classic third game, in which Dante and Lady vanquish him and his demonic tower filled with freaky monsters. Whether or not the show will pull from the games beyond the essential characters is a mystery at this time, but die-hard fans will be the first to notice any classic bosses if they make a cameo.
