Prior to launch, there was much made about Devil May Cry 5's microtransactions and how they could negatively impact the balance of the game. Most critics seemed concerned about how Devil May Cry 5's microtransactions could be used to upgrade characters and purchase new moves, but their implementation goes a little beyond that, actually making it possible to use them to come back to life when players die in the game.

Now that Devil May Cry 5 is available to the public, its revival system has been revealed to the masses. Whenever Dante, Nero, or V go down in Devil May Cry 5, players are given the option to come back to life using gold orbs or red orbs. Gold orbs are a fairly rare resource, and can only be obtained in specific areas of certain levels or received as daily bonuses for logging into the game or earning Stylish combat ratings. Red orbs, meanwhile, are the primary currency in Devil May Cry 5 and can be found all over the place, including the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store.

Effectively, this means that Devil May Cry 5's microtransactions can be used to help players come back to life. If players were to run out of orbs, they could simply purchase a batch of red orbs for real money. At the time of writing, Devil May Cry 5 players can purchase 100,000 red orbs for $1.99, though it's possible more microtransaction options will be added in the future.

While some may be upset that Devil May Cry 5's microtransactions can technically be used to revive players in the game, we should note that it is unlikely to be a serious issue. In our own Devil May Cry 5 review, we pointed out that players are given so many red orbs that it's unlikely they will ever feel the need to purchase anymore through microtransactions. They really only seem in place for players who want to have all of the upgrades right away instead of earning them in-game.

Even so, it's understandable that some fans may be wary of Devil May Cry 5's microtransactions, especially considering Capcom's missteps with DLC in the past. However, unless Capcom nerfs the rate at which red orbs are earned in-game, it doesn't appear as though the microtransactions will be a problem in Devil May Cry 5.

Devil May Cry 5 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
