Many rank Devil May Cry 5 among 2019’s best action games (and among the best DMC games), which is why fans are excited for the enhancements the upcoming Special Edition will bring when it launches alongside the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X next month. Capcom seems to be pretty excited too, since over the last few weeks it’s been teasing its new features, such as the vastly-improved load times.

The publisher has already given an idea of how much next-gen hardware will speed things up, having demonstrated Devil May Cry 5’s load times on PS5 earlier this month. Taking things a step further, though, TEEDA on YouTube took the preview footage and compared it to footage of the game loading on PC, PS4, and Xbox One X.

The comparison is a bit skewed (the PS4 footage shows a different mission being loaded than the other versions), but it still succeeds in illustrating the vast difference in loading speeds between Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition and the original release. Whereas the PC version takes around 10 seconds to load the mission using an SSD, and the current-gen console versions roughly take 20 seconds, the PS5 version gets it done in under four. Furthermore, it's being claimed that all of the game’s missions will take approximately 2-5 seconds to load, which, based off the footage, seems like an accurate number.

The only thing missing at this point is seeing how fast the game will load on the Xbox Series X, but given how the Xbox Series’ load times compare to the Xbox One’s, it’s safe to assume the XSX version will be able to match the PS5 in terms of speed. Whichever console they choose, it looks like players won’t have much of a waiting game to deal with while trying to enjoy DMC 5’s fast-paced combat.

In addition to improved load times, Capcom has hyped other technical upgrades like ray-tracing and multiple performance modes for enhancing DMC 5’s resolution and framerate. Unfortunately, the publisher has confirmed that the Special Edition won’t be available for PC, as all of its enhancements are “specifically being developed and optimized” for next-gen consoles.

But on the plus side, the biggest new feature, a fully playable Vergil, will be available on both current and next-gen platforms. So if there’s any consolation for PC and current-gen players who have been upset over the Special Edition’s console exclusivity, it’s that they’ll at least be able to finally play as Vergil without relying on one of Devil May Cry 5's mods.

Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition will release in November as a PS5 and Xbox Series X launch title.
